Keyboard and mouse here as I am all thumbs with a controller just cannot coordinate my thumbs at all.
I have just mounted my horse for the first time (no tittering in the back) and I have to follow Vesemir, do I have to or is it to early to wander off and explore?
You can do whatever you want. I'd advise riding with him until you get to the first pit stop though! Basically the entire land of White Orchard is a tutorial level and it's massive, so go explore!
I think you should always go renegade from the first moment in RPGs if you can... else you miss stuff. Plus it is really funny revisiting the initial missions you missed when you are a badass. Although I hear the initial grinding is pretty tough going. Doubly so if you remember your Witcher 2 character.
Yea just beat the Moonwraith. Easy peasy. OK I would prefer a shotgun to a sword but beggars cannot be choosers.
Can somebody please tell me how to place an ability in an empty slot as nothing I do seems to work? Edit: Figured it more by luck than anything else.
So what's the general consensus on best signs? The flame blast seems good for critters along with the mind control for bigger baddies.
just click and drag it into the empty slot. I'm assuming that theres a limited number of stat points available and that you won't be able to have every skill? Hoping it's not going to be like oblivion where without research I could end up with a useless set of skills, .
They're all well fleshed out in this Witcher! I'm going for the best looking signs when used in battle, so focusing upon Igni and Quen at the moment. Paired with a Greater Blue Mutagen and some other sign boosting relics it's a very effective combination.
By the way the game does not like Fraps running at the same time or maybe it was the secondary monitor I had up with GPU-z CPUID HWMonitor Nvidia Inspector running as either way it froze twice until I shut restarted my PC.
Did you let Nvidia GeForce Experience optimise the game for you? Does a pretty decent job, just turned on hairworks and increased the people population setting and get solid frames.
Not sure I see the relevance. But no I did not as I do not use it as I have found it can cause issues. But that aside the game runs fine I just wanted an idea of temps and frame rates ETC hence the aforementioned programs I had running.
Geforce experience seems to do everything for you, nice tools. When I switched from GTX 760 to 970 it did all the work for me. Really struggling on the Baron stage at the minute, think i've gone to early at level 3 but great game. My daughters up to level 20 and this game still looks good on an amd 7790 with the i5 2500k.
Ive played this with Fraps, HWMonitor and gpu-z running without issue. Turn off hairworks, go fullscreen, not windowed and see how you go. I have uninstalled geforce experience. It would constantly crash if I changed the tabs from system and back to games in the latest version.
Go full screen? I have never in my life played a game windowed, I no idea why anyone would. And what is this hairworks? The game runs very smoothly when I do not have any of these programs running so I will leave things as they are at the moment. Edit: More noobie questions, I came upon a group of bandits, two of whom had bows of some sort and one a shield. I managed to defeat all but tge shield carrier. Obviously not doing something right. But why does the bow not become available if I kill the guy who has got one? I have yet to make a potion as I always seem to be missing something and I am sure I will need help as I need to go and have a word with a Griffin Should I be selling/buying stuff?.
Go to the options and set the framerate to maximum and check the game is running full screen. default is windowed iirc. Turn off hairworks for better performance ( all it does is make hair look more lifelike but gives performance hits) The crossbow is given to you at the end of the first 'map'.. because I thought the same!
Also, defeating shield equipped troops is not really done with the crossbow, the Ardd telekinetic blast will stun them and leave them open to attack.
Dealing with shield bearers is best done with Aard or counterattacking. Regarding the bows, Geralt does not use bows, and has not been trained in their use, so they are not available. Crossbow is one handed but as you can see in its stats, this is not something Geralt is likely do use much (although I understand you can specialize in it to some degree). Good potion to work on is Swallow, regenerates health and heals bleeding. Find a merchant or a herbalist, there is a very nice woman in White Orchard that will gladly sell you some herbs and nudge you in the right direction regarding the Swallow potion.
I believe in White Orchard you want to be looting every corpse and chest and box and sack for absolutely everything and selling it to merchants, apart from the stuff you want to keep of course. I wondered why when my mouse went right it was opening RocketBox, it must be running full screen windowed mode, what a stupid default. I've also had problems with Geforce experience so no longer install it, I had to uninstall it to get a certain game to even work (can't remember which one it was now though, ). Also seem to be noticing more problems with Games and background services like Afterburner/RivaStatServer. Been getting plenty of crashes in games recently (pCars, GTA V, ETS2), been starting to wonder if somethings a bit dodgy in my system, although Witcher plays fine, don't think I've had one crash yet which is nice.
