Currently platoon with an old friend who is new to the game. I thought going the American light tank line would be best, it was a line I've not done, and it seemed an interesting line for us to both grind.

Epic fail last night, currently were in M5's nearing M7's but kept being thrown into tier 8 matches, and trying to explain scouting mechanics to someone with only 115 games to there name is some what tricky. He kept wondering how the hell he kept getting hit from outside his view range... poor git! He'll get there, but it's tricky to teach and play at the same time.

unfortunately burnout all the teir4 lights get horrible matchmaking ( PZNA, A20, M5 etc ) im 99% sure this is to discourage players from advancing up the ranks to quickly ( and quietly encourage people to buy gold and skip these ahem) WG are all to quick to brag about how many accounts they have registered, rather than how many active players there are, so they don't really care how many quit during these tanks...

but remember as hard as it is for you players now, originally the tanks faced teir9s as well :(

I was reading about the changes in 8.8 and find this -
    * 122 mm D-25T gun with piston shutter removed from KV1-S [Source - its the very last line of the page]

Can anyone please explain me what this mean ????? I am deeply enjoying KV1S with this amazing 122mm gun, are they going to remove this gun now ???!!!! :jawdrop:

To be honest KV1S is nothing without this gun :wallbash:

Ummm, I'm not seeing where it says that on the linked page.

Last line I see is "Changed the logic of the "sliders" in the Service window."

Rumour is the D-25T will be removed in patch 8.9. But this this is rumour.

I personally don't think the KV1-S needs nerfing, the aim and reload times troll that gun enough.

If it is removed it'll be another case of WG pandering to noobs just like with the arty nerf. The KV-1S isn't and has never been OP. A KV-1S will 2 shot most tier 6 tanks but people conveniently forget it has a really long reload time and next to no armour so can be 2 shot without reply quite easily if people would actually work as a team. Against tier 8 the KV-1S is pathetic.

edit: I've just this minute 1 shot two of them in the same battle.

Has it been verified that the snapshot skill helps artillery?

That just it, the KV-1S is a massive pain in the arse, you need support tanks to back you up during reloads, and not many people understand that.

I honestly think it only becomes OP when there are 2-3 in a platoon, where they can pop out one by one and unleash hell fire. But really any tank in the game platooned a played well can be OP.

WG are treading a very fine line here,

When you start nerfing fairly accurate historical data to satisfy a complaining and often unskilled knee jerk minority, It's only a matter of time before it eats into profits (Like premium account holders walking and finding a new game).
What WG did to arty is unforgivable (unrealistic loading times and useless aim times).
If a player can see there is arty gunning on them, it's their own stupid fault for not moving into cover, Why blame the "stupid arty" for their ignorance of basic armoured tactics.
It's not even worth playing FFS, they might as well remove it from the game completely next patch. See how many kills tier 7 and above light tanks can score and how pointless their spotting existence will be.

WG (or any other game) should never have let a community dictate the game dynamics.
Good ideas going to s*** IMO.
At this rate the game will end up of a community of single class tier X heavy's FFS

"World of Heavy Tanks (that were never built)" will be the new black.

Ok rant over, that's been building inside since the arty nerf.

IMHO a lot of the butthurt in WoT comes down to people getting killed by a single round, especially from an opponent they never saw. I noticed this a LOT playing arty before the nerf when I would one-shot a medium and people would start screaming in rage. Same applies to the KV-1S and the other tanks that people whine about being overpowered. WG has addressed this to some extent by changing it so that many shots that should be lethal instead take the target down to 1%. It's frustrating playing arty or something like my KV-2 because despite doing hundreds and hundreds of damage, someone else gets the kill.

I've noticed this more than ever during this 30 kill special. I've lost count of how many tanks I've knocked down to single figure hit points for someone else to get the kill. It never really bothered me before as normally I want the XP more than the kill but when 300k is up for grabs and you really don't want to play any more battles it gets really frustrating.

    FTFY ;)

you expect WOT players to work as a team ??

+1 I play my kv1s every day ( not because its OP, but because im training a crew for the IS7 if I ever want to get one and ALL the tanks after it lose a crewman )

it has NEVER been op you are reloading for a full 15 seconds ( that's with rammer and 100% crew ) and but people take a hit from them and then THEY hide around the corner and wait for you, giving you ample reload time so you can wait, reload and smack them again.

its also historical that the KV1s has the 122
    [IMG]
but noobs cannot be arsed to learn how to play the game, so gold ammo became available for silver, arty was nerfed to oblivion, and now the KV1S, im pretty sure a TOG can kill a KV1S without much trouble, hell im sure even a well played M6 can kill a 1S very easily ( anyone want to try this ? )
just more and more noobs whining...there are currently only 3 tanks I can think of that are OP
T57 with its rapid fire autoloader made all French tanks obsolete,
Foch155 can one clip anything that isn't a teirX heavy, broken camouflage ( best in game ) decent mobility and good front armour...
105 leFH18B2. Premium arty piece that conveniently wasn't nerfed with the rest of the arty but benifited from the increased accuracty...this thing can perma track every tank in the game and with heat does significant damage to teir7s. currently has the highest win ratio of ANY tank currently in the game on 3 servers

    UPDATE
    - it is not hundred percent confirmed, that the KV-1S will lose the 122mm gun: “We are solving it at this moment”. Apparently there is a conflict between SerB and Zlobny, SerB wants to keep it, while Zlobny wants to throw it out. But the 100mm S-34 will be added either way.

Recently built up enough XP and credits to buy my first T8, a T32 heavy. Have fully upgraded it and I'm currently saving credits to get Improved Ventilation to go alongside my rammer to improve RoF (also building up base crew skills after transferring them from my T29). All well and good so far then I hear you say!
My problem is though that I just seem out of my depth. Can't get my playstyle right. I die fast and do very little damage. If I sit back I get shouted at by team mates. When I try to play forward line I get decimated in seconds. I probably just need to build up my playing skills and get used to the higher level but do any of you play this tank and have any tips for me?

Ignore the player chat, they're usually a bunch of muppets. Watch the mini map and look for places to play hull down, even if you hold back on one flank rather than pushing it. The tide of the game can change, by merely holding a flank rather than pushing it.

Sounds like you're playing too aggressively, which I a problem I often have as well.

Hold back, use cover, try to keep something solid between you and the artillery, and let some other muppet go first and draw the enemy's fire. Also, like Burnout said, watch the minimap and make sure you're not out ahead of everyone else alone. You don't want to be the only tank the enemy can see!

I just started up on World of Tanks over the weekend, thoroughly enjoying the game so far though the matchmaking seems a little optimistic at times.

I'm mostly focussing on British/Soviet tanks at the moment, managed to get to the T5 Churchill I and Crusader.
I absolutely love the T4 Matilda, it moves like a boat on land but the great armour and combination of gun penetration & reload speed is good enough to make up for it.

So far my best round had to be this one in the Matilda:

Any recommendations for a good clan for someone starting out?
Or any tips on what tanks to work towards?

with regards to clans is always better to find a clan whos opinions about what they want match your own . there are several clans with members of Bit-Tech in them, Lance is in DOW ( iirc ) along with a few others, im in Duds ( along with a few others as well ) DOW is ( or at least was ) very focused on teirX and clan wars, while DuDs is a lot more laid back than that

as for working out what you want to work towards, a good idea might just to try everything and see what you ENJOY, some people are great in meds, others prefer driving a heavy tank, arty isn't worth playing these days, lights are very hard to play, and TDs can be fickle
