The biggest problem with the PS3 was that Sony failed to capitalise on it's power advantage and get some games out. I had it from day 1 and I would say that it never really had a single game that utilised it properly. Sony lost focus with the Move when they should have been bolstering the mainstream catalogue. If Sony want the PS4 to succeed they need to get some proper exclusives that utilise ALL of the power of the new machine. If they rely on 3rd Party publishers only interested in cross platform development then the games will never fulfil their potential and never attract the true hard core gamers. Otherwise it won't matter how much better the PS4 is compared to the XB1, the games will only be as good as the XB1 can deliver.
Seriously? No games used the power of the PS3? Whilst I'd agree with the original launch games, the likes of Uncharted, Heavy Rain, God of War, The Last of Us etc. are pushing the system to the absolute limits.
Uncharted and Heavy Rain weren't really games, I never played God Of War (not my kind of thing) and as far as I know The Last Of Us is not yet released. My point mainly is that I waited for probably over a year before a remotely decent game arrived. They cannot afford for that to happen this time.
Unfortunately for Sony, it will be pretty hard for them to do that outside of the in-house studios. The reason is exactly what you dislike in XBOX One - the no-borrow rule and the fee for second hand market resale. That alone will bring many exclusives for XBOX One, either releasing them months before the other platforms, or not releasing the game for other platforms at all. Sony will either please the gamers (but then next to no exclusives and delayed releases for many games) or publishers (but then it will lose the competitive edge in this area).
QFT - the 360 and PS3 weren't much more than the same wolf in different clothing when it came to what you got out of it. The PS3 was looking like it was going to stand out in performance, but it didn't happen and the 'Playstation' tag has lost much of the greatness it deservedly won with the PS2. PS4 needs to go its own way. Where Microsoft could snatch an advantage with their DRM blocking lending is by dropping the RRP of new games, down to £15-25. If all new games are considerably cheaper than PS4 games then Xbox will stand out, sell more consoles and sell more games. Lending and piracy will be less of a consideration.
Because deep down, i am an Xbox Fanboy, yes, i said it! That said, the PS never really meant anything to me. I bought my 360 on release, stuck with it despite it being replaced for DVD drive issues and a single RRoD, and in that time, i did have a PS3, but it's ONLY use was the Blu-Ray, so it was sold on, and i never regretted selling it. I'm a huge fan of Halo as some of you know, so it just feels like a normal upgrade route. Sam
WiiU sales up 875% since the XBox One event on Amazon U.K, playeressence reports: http://playeressence.com/amazon-uk-...g-microsofts-xbox-one-reveal/?fb_source=pubv1
From what I gather this is basically like PC gaming now. So now the impetus to get a new console is starting to diminish if there is not much differentiation.

Quois... Far's I remembers, they wazzle. TBH, some of Sony's issues to begin with were also to do with the way they pushed their own IP. It wasn't just "difficult to code" and "too expensive". They actively focused on delivering cinematic type gaming. That was their vision. Hence games like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, God of War and such. Turns out though, most gamers just want fun. Personally I preferred the cinema qualities. I'm not a social gamer and it mattered more to me. In the end, it was the churn games that kept both consoles relevant... COD, Tom Clancy Rainbow nonsense, endless Burnout, DIRT all that stuff. Ubisoft and EA All people want is online coop, deathmatch and sports games from where I'm sat sometimes. Even GTA 4 was relatively shunned despite becoming a much more adult game. Yeah it received many an accolade. But I still remember the endless whining - "it doesn't have kill sprees" "where is the stupid minigames I never played" "why can't I kill someone with a *****" "why is it so down beat". Yet it almost perfectly captured the American Dream's reality with obvious artistic licence needed in any fictitious action game. Nintendo are definitely a company who've made their own way nowadays. I'm glad they didn't go the way Sega did. It's quite interesting really that they compete with the techy big boys on their own merits. Fun is number one.
This made me laugh... http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/24/xbox-one-kinect-2s-visual-drm-functions-found-in-patent-file-report/ The potential for Kinect 2 to monitor the number of people watching a movie. So for something over and beyond a small family, the system has the potential to stop a Blu-ray from playing! Best not to invite the relatives over for Christmas this year in case I want to watch TV on the XBOX ONE! I'm going to buy an XBOX ONE and buy a HAL 9000 decal for the Kinect 2 part...
That doesn't mean anything without actual sales figures. So it was at 40 and it's now down to 59 again. How many is the biggest online retailer in the UK actually selling per day? I'm guessing not very many. It's the 59th best selling this AT THE MOMENT on the amazon gaming store. A whole selection of controllers, cables and batteries are all selling in greater numbers. The Xbox 360 is at 34. I wouldn't read much into these figures. Earthbound (Nintendo Wii U) is at number 3 and if you visit the page you can register to be notified about it. So clearly this chart is not based on pure sales.
You are right, but it does mean that sales are picking up at some noticeable level for the WiiU, no mater how you put it.
After further thinking about the XBox One. I do see that the XBox One will sale very well. #1 Console, even. Gamers will hate it...much like the Wii, but everyone had one. To be honest, the average non hard core gamer doesn't care about used games, and they like TV, and sports is big for them. The reason why the WiiU did well, is because many just wanted to see what the other console manufacture would release. Now we know: -> XBox One, will be a media center / living room entertainment system -> PS4 is a standard gaming console.. a PC on TV. (PS3 with updated specs) -> WiiU is targeted at offering a unique experience, and console at an affordable price.
Everybody will want it? At £399? I don't think so! Go buy an Apple TV at £99, or any other media streamer....or you've got one already.
Yes but as a basic streamer it's actually not bad. The thing is, at 4x the price, you might as well just use your gaming PC.
