Finally thermalright tought of us poor socketA owners http://www.systemcooling.com/thermalright_si-97-01.html Pretty cool if you ask me Sorry if this is old news to you guys
Seems like there's enough room but i'll tell you soon, i'm waiting for one ETA tuesday or wednesday Also seems like you can almost get WC temps at respecable OC'ing with the proper fan on it
I just received the cooler and i have to say it's a big sucker loll. Installing it was a breeze and the clip attaches rather nicely though a little wabbly from side to side (but if you consider the way it sits on the chip, it's normal) I was very (to say the least) impressed by the numbers i saw on my MBM dashboard. Before my idle temps always stayed in the mid to high 30's and i had to reboot and get into bios to make sure the 24°c was right, and it was. I let it run for a while, surfing, music etc. and it kept a nice 25°c all the way. Now as i write this, im in my first hour of Prime 95 and it didn't go higher than 31°c 4 degrees lower than my friggin NB temp. If someone would've told me that story, i wouldn't have beleived it but it's true, that heat sink is "AMAZING" i recommend it to anyone wanting to upgrade to something they can overclock with i always beleived in the mighty massive copper HS but now... heat pipes and aluminium are my god
First off i had a massive copper HS weighing around a pound on it was a fan adapter cause the mounting holes were for a 60mm on top of that was a Tt ducting mod to eliminate the dead spot of the fan hub and to get even air flow to all the surface of the fins and it was crowned with a 80mm 70+cfm's fan. So temps were pretty nice, you can imagine this was the best i got i always kept this pic to brag a bit, but now i look at it and smile The pic here on the load temps i pushed the OC a bit more but nothing to give a heat stroke to a 2500, to make it even take a few degrees off if you want. Now my load (prime 95 for 1-1/2 hour) are 2 degrees lower than those idle temps and those idle were taken at boot up with the previous setup I tell ya this HS is amazing
Here in canada it's getting a little cool leaves are falling and i opened the window a bit to see what would happened (aside from leaves on the floor lol) booted up to this, no tricks same as usual, just a little cooler in the room
oh my god.. its like temps only seen on watercooling.. in a way, it slightly reminds me of watercooling.. at least its concept anyway you have a cpu block.. probs alot more effective than a WC block, as the heatpipes (like water tubing i suppose) are alu and soldered to this base.. then its like a rad where the heat gets disspated.. quite amazing.. im currently idling at 39C with my volcano 12 'extreme'.. the room is about 22C.. the V12 is pretty crap.. and noisy as hell.. i think i might keep an eye out for the si-97 btw, what fan are you using?
I'm currently using the fan that was on my other setup which was supposed to be around 75 CFM's but it's been a while and it's now turning only 3325 average RPM's with no more than 60cfm's tops i think (used to be 3550-3600 rpm) I tell you, if you're on the market to find a new heat sink, read about the new thermalright (dont know which socket you have) they are pretty amazing loll i see myself repeating that word often when i talk about that HS loll EDIT: oh yeah, about the Q on if you can put a fan under, there's enough room for a slim 80mm, maybe a 25mm, but if you put a good fan on top, it will only get in the way of the air flow but a push pull setup with equal fans would probably improve a bit more on temps i think
These take 92/90MM fans right? I hope so... they look pretty hardcore performance wise and I'm going to buy one tonight along with a 200GB hard drive.
