There is no comparison IMO, but you need to check if the Alpha fits your mobo... you motherboard needs to have 4 holes situated around the socket for the CPU in order to mount the thing.

The alpha with even a relatively quiet fan will cool your XP1800 far better than the SK6 would do wth a Delta 60mm :D

As they say... big is beautiful... this heatsink is certainly big, and the looks are awesome :D

For a very good all round fan, I would suggest the mechatronics, it is rated at 39dB(A) but it moves 53CFM of air! compared to the sanyo, which moves 53CFM @ 45dB(A) trust me there is a considerable difference in 6dB(A) your looking at the sanyo being 4 times as loud!

If you were to get the Alpha, you would certainly not be disappointed with what you have got for your money, and I think this is probably the closest competition to watercooling, at a fraction of the cost! :D

I'd have to second that with a big thumbs up for the alpha. The nearest any hsf has got to my water setup and a LOT less work to get it sorted. :)

i take it its the alpha then....o well, ill guess ill cancel the sk6 then....once thing tho, i know on the asus website (http://www.micforg.co.jp/mb_inf_pal8045e.html) it says that the alpha will fit on my board but a capacitor might get in the way....anyone know from personal experience or word of mouth wether this is a big problem or not??? what kinda temps am i looking at?? the alpha is the one which extracts air rather then blowing right? and its not very good the other way round??

I've got the sk6 its not a bad heat sink but i get temps of 40 idle / up to 55 under 100 % laod .with a ys tech fan it is on the loud side so just imagine what it would be like with a delta !!!!!

so what happens with my 120mm blowhole just above the cpu?? does it become a sucker or what?? this is asssuming the alpha sucks heat off rather then blow ontop of it....and does it matter if you do it the other way round....

I have an Alpha on an A7V266-E with vcore at 1.86v, with an XP1500 at 1678Mhz :D and it keeps it nice and cool(ish)

Its a good cooler, but bear in mind that the Asus reports temperatures somewhat higher than other brands of boards, due to them using a propietary (sp?) thermal control chip (Sandra can tell you what your hardware monitoring chip is, well most boards use the VIA or AMD supplied ones, but Asus do their own) and it reports anything from 7-15 degrees too warm.

I personally only rely on MBM5, and set it too take 8 degrees of what the BIOS and motherboard so as to compare better to other boards. And if its stable then I dont care if it gets a little warm!

    :)

the alpha cause my experience with an sk6 is v.bad and should only be used for a paper weight.

It can be set either way. However, it works better with air drawn out of the heatsink than blown in.

Price in this order, starting with cheapest, going to most expensive (when including delivery):

    OCS (www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk)

    Chillblast (www.chillblast.co.uk)

    The unmentionable above.

Chillblast have the best customer service, followed by OCS, and the other one is appallingly bad. Just don't buy from them...they'll charge you more, and treat you worse. I got two from chillblast, but that was before OCS stocked them.

Because they're expensive, customer service is crap, and they don't package things properly. Also, they don't know much about overclocking.

The mechatronics seems quieter than the YS-Techs in my system. I too got sick of the Delta 60mm, and can assure you that the Mechatronics is quiet, quality. Ask Biggie too.
