As far as I'm concerned, the only software you need for a keyboard is xmodmap.

but does it support the all important RGB. You may say that keyboard maps and functionality are more important but we all know RGB lighting is in fact the main selling point.

The only time I've ever tried to get RGB lighting working was on an Arduino, so... <shrug>

The software looks truly awful. Even "ckb-next", the 3rd-party linux software for Corsair products looks miles better.

    See?

I'm still annoyed that nobody has sat down and written a standard protocol for peripheral lighting control.

I mean, I know WHY they haven't. Everyone wants their own custom-branded icon in the users' task bars reminding them they are the proud owners of an iCool Megaspifficus Text Entry Device(featuring Cherry MX Octarine Switches for Low-Latency Gaming). But there's no reason for it aside from corporate vanity, and it is infuriating.

Because no one will adopt it. If they use a common protocol they could all use different programs. But if it happens it'll just be another protocol
