I bought four 80mm 4 LED fans. I put two in one machine and they work fine. I put two in another machine (w/bigger PSU), and all the do is glow. The fans are still. There is a connector with 3 pin holes on the fan. I used the adapter connectors so I can plug in to a 4 pin molex. It has only 2 pins but it's the one that comes with the fans. Trying the other 2 pin holes yields no glow and no go. Any ideas? TIA
Try swapping the fans from one machine to another to see if it's the fans or the computer. It's unlikely, but possible. It's also possible that plugging the two-pin connector onto the three-pin one incorrectly has damaged the fan somehow. I don't think the sense cable is meant to have 12v down it. Swapping them round should see if this is the case.
Didn't think it would show much, but I tried a fan out in a third PC and it works. So, what does this say about the other system? Maybe this is more of a general hardware question? I'll post a question there. Looks like it's a bad molex connector. I tried a different one and they both work now.
Sure it isnt the molex wired backward? 5 volts would only have the leds light but the fan wouldnt spin.
