That's all folkes, the tool that saved hours of endless reboots and continuous downloads on a fresh build system has been killed by Microsoft... Apparently it has nothing to do with WGA... Hmm Original Source: theregister/ BTW, just tried connecting to the fabled firefox friendly Windows update to recieve a helpfull little message telling me to "upgrade my browser" to ie7... I think not baby puppy!!! So is there an alternative anyone knows of?
Yeah, call be anal, over-paranoid... but new builds connected to the tinterweb for pretty much a days worth of downloading to update everything with a restart every half hour or so leaves that box a tad open...and not exactly autonomous is it? Plus it was great to send to the folks to update their crap infested box with simple insrtuctions...
I've been too busy ranting and raving in anger and frustration in the printshop here for a moment of silence!
You know, you'd think MS would want to kinda fix up their image to the enthusiast crowd.. Wouldn't it have been smarter to work with them instead of shutting them down... Then again, business never really makes sense
windows update that does work with firefox http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/ its basically an extension for firefox, firefox will block it from installing, allow the site in the dialogue, then select allow site in the warning dialogue that pops up
I wouldn't mind so much if MS provided an easy to use offline alternative to WU. We have a network that legally cannot be connected to the Interweb, and the offline WSUS is the poo. So long, AutoPatcher, and thanks for all the fish.
You know the old proverb: Kill one, 5 more pop up in its place. I think that was a proverb, anyways. hmm.
