Anyone want to get rid of democracy? Makes sense: just look at Hitler Germany. That guy turned a country on the brink of economic collapse into a European powerhouse in a decade. Totalitarianism gets **** done.

Efficiency as judged by all the other health services out there in the world. like democracy, the NHS is the least bad of all the systems tried.

    Toasters

They either toast reasonably quickly but unevenly and inconsistently, risking burning as you experiment with various techniques to get round the problem, or evenly but painfully ****ing slowly, and none of them have worked out a way to get the bread from the bag, into the toaster, then out on to the plate without dropping a ****ing boat load of crumbs absolutely ****ing everywhere. Seriously, the tech on these ****ers is like 100 years old or something - sort it the **** out Dyson!

Dyson would just put a venturi on a toaster and sell it for 500 times what its worth.

Those commercial ones that run the bread on a conveyor under the heat source are basically the best ones.

Yours for only £423, which is what dyson would charge for a venturi toaster anyway.

Speaking of Dyson, does anybody else think that their fans are crap? Now I'm not talking about the price here, that's about the only thing I can stomach for some reason. No I hate how plasticky and tacky they are in person, the same goes for their vacuum cleaners IMO.

As far as I'm concerned, I feel those fans should be made out of metal. I mean they're not value oriented to begin with, nobody buys a Dyson fan because it's good value. They buy it because they either like the fanless operation (kids, pets etc. not an unreasonable thought) or because they think they look nice. So why not offer some limited version that comes in metal purely for the people who like the look, just charge £800 or something silly like that. I guarantee people would buy it. In fact I know a bunch who would, they wanted those fans to kit out some new offices, but upon taking a closer look at John Lewis they decided they felt cheap and tacky, despite being £200. Instead they went for some simple, and much cheaper, chrome floor fans.

Not going to get involved in that NHS discussion above as it's a whole different kettle of fish.

I don't like the conveyors - the toast always seems to come off only crisp on the outside, and cold - insufficient penetration.

That can be solved by slowing the conveyor and lowering the heat of the heaty thing. :dremel:

Worst thing I've found with toasters is trying to find one that will toast 4 slices of Warburtons at once, without a chunk of each slice poking out the top. Fortunately I now have one, but gone though a shed load of toasters over the years trying to get one. Should have seen the look on peoples faces when I whopped out a bag of bread in Debenhams.

    Agreed.

Front panel IO as well then - why isn't it a single standard?
PCIE retention clips - can never get a finger in, esp. the top slot.
Memory heatsinks - let's make them sharp and pointy so when pushed down it hurts.
Graphics cards - facing downwards, not upwards. OH A NICE NEW GRAPHICS CARD DESIGN aaaand you only get to see its arse.

Agreed. By why even Hitler, the Chinese today get **** done. Big growth year on year. Huge, country-wide projects, MASSIVE infrastructure builds, millions of people lifted out of poverty into the working and middle classes, but I still wouldn't sign up for the authoritarianism, the sidelining of health and safety, of personal opinion and individual ownership, the consideration of the small as well as the large.

True story of one tech company near Shenzhen: You want to build a factory? That mountain is in the way? Mayor just levelled it no further questions. There's 500 new jobs and GDP gain++ but the landscape and ecology is now ****ed, and the few people that used to live there can go elsewhere and if they complain you put them in jail. Oh well.

Alternatively come and live in Taiwan for a few years and you'll appreciate the expense and consideration the UK puts into health and safety. Where I live - you want to get out in a fire from your 8F apartment? It's in the single stairwell? Oh well, it was your only method of egress. Your house has 3-pin sockets in - great!... maybe. Remove the facia to find none of the earth are connected, because that's a cost. It's a country where people play the lottery and also ride mopeds with children between their legs or sat behind holding on to mum or dad; convenience and cost it only consideration. World class health service here that's super fast, but it's pretty much like a factory. I don't think UK people would sign up for that.

Is it wrong to always have wanted one? :worried:

Well, Jeremy Hunt thinks we should aspire to be like the Chinese... :p

Not surprising since the Tory government is pushing authoritarianism and dismantling things it cannot control. No NHS, no BBC, no EU, no more face sitting, more cameras, more monitoring, more filtering.

Things made badly: the fact you only get democracy for a PM, but government jobs are not something the public decides. Given to those without express expertise in particular areas they govern. No business public or private would operate like that, why should a government?

Surely toaster makers have got a good Idea on the average slice of bread here in the UK? So why are the slots invariably to small? It may take longer but the good old under the grill provides the best toast.
