My Entry level Canon 1200d is starting to get a bit tired. The lenses that came with it started sticking when zooming in so I recently replaced it with a similar lense and also bought a 55mm fixed lense too as that seemed to be recommended. I have no idea what I should go for, do I go budget again and maybe splash out on a good lense or should I save and get something mid range. Probably have about 5 to 600 quid.
Imho go 2nd-hand from somewhere like MBP - I bought a 7D from them and it's been fantastic, cheap enough yet with some warranted condition etc that if it's DOA you can send it straight back.
I don't know the Canon system in detail I guess the 1200D sensor is APS-C. You should be able to get a better body on MPB or LCE. If Canon is like Nikon which I'm more familiar with, the higher spec cameras will have better and easier to see viewfinders. If you have money left, put it into more or better lenses, as they are always worth investing in
Interesting they have a low shutter count one too. Theres a mk2 7D as well which is better? I presume my current lenses will fit for now too.
Just checked, the 7D is APS-C and your existing lenses will go straight on it. Looks like a decent spec well made camera with a mag alloy body. Should be a real step up in handling and operation. A good choice by @Krikkit there
Yep as noted - APS-C so all the lenses will fit and be the same, the options in camera etc are brilliant, but it's not over-complicated if you don't want to go full tinkering. I know I sound like a shill, but MBP are also really good - I had an issue with a body that I'd bought, they didn't quibble at all, free return label sent and a better-condition body sent next-day delivery to replace it
I'm using a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 EX HSM and a Canon 70-200 F4L IS for most of my shooting - not the best lenses, but affordable and (for my poor skills) constant aperture across their range.
Aha thank you. Yes typo on my behalf, funnily enoughMBP cameras still gets you their website as the first link That one might take me a little more saving.
Yes not cheap, but I upgraded after a few years with cheaper kit, best value was this Canon 55-250. Not constant aperture but still very good for the money https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/product/canon-ef-s-55-250mm-f-4-5-6-is-ii
Good lens recommendations too IMO @Krikkit The 70-200 f4 L lens is great, I remember them from when I used to sell Canon kit. Nikon took an age to do an equivalent 70-200 f4 AF-S ED version, which is great too. They now need to release a rather overdue (again!) Z mount equivalent. Heck, even a native Nikon Z 70-300 lens would be really welcome. @CrapBag, keep us updated with your purchases and any photos you have taken and like.
I really rate it, although I'd spring for a 2.8 if I had the cash, I think with a £1k budget for my setup it's very decent and not too horrendous.
....and purchased Nearly bought the 8000 shutter count one as it was £30 cheaper but then noticed the pop up flash wasnt working.
The only times I've ever had the pop-up flash out on my Nikon are when I've pressed the button by accident, and then it clatters into the Speedflash and ends up half-deployed...
I don't have another flash at the moment so it may have caused issues. Still learning at 55. I have one that fitted my 35mm Pentax but i don't think that would have worked.
