I don't use the hop-up flash at all, it's crap! I don't have one or shoot with one yet. If I'm shooting in dark situations I'll just wing the ISO up and accept its limitations. But I can see why it's a useful fall-back to get you out of a tricky shooting spot. Congrats anyway, as said above share as you go, don't worry about how fancy they are
Camera has turned up and it looks to be in great condition. One thing is though it takes compact flash cards, I cant remember the last camera I had that took those, is that correct? Well obviously it is, I'm just surprised as I've bought a camera that's a lot older than my present one but better than the current one.
Pro cameras use CF Express, which is a PCIe based storage medium. Not sure if it's related to old school CF, but it's a physically different card form that or SSD. It's faster as you say, and a lot more resilient to data loss than SD.
So do I buy a CF card or are the convertors any good. I'm really torn on this camera, it feels amazing but it's five years older than the one it's replacing which I'm trying to ignore even though I know it's a better camera.
If, it shows all the signs of being well looked after and, the shutter count is not too high, try not to worry about the age.
My shutter count is probably insane, even though it's rarely taken for a walk. I auto-bracket shoot most of the time and continuous quite a bit as well. Oops.
I bought a couple of CF cards for mine, the advantage you can have is if you shoot RAW+JPEG you can fire the RAW into the CF cards, then JPEG onto SD. You can just use the SD slot though, works perfectly fine. Don't forget to set up for back-button focus
I'm not a good enough photographer to shoot straight to JPEG - post-processing in Darktable is always a necessity!
It's only useful for filtering the dross quicker in JPEG previews Oh sorry that's the most notable Mk2 feature, which as it turns out is what I have, I'd forgotten there even was one! If you've got some decent SD cards I'd use an adapter
Yeh I had a feeling you might have had a MKII so have I made a mistake getting the earlier one? I mean its less than half of the price of the MKII 2nd hand.
I don't think so, it's still a great bit of kit. If you really gel with it have a think if you want to upgrade at some point. Obviously artificial comparisons are limited, but as a comparison: https://cameradecision.com/compare/Canon-EOS-7D-vs-Canon-EOS-1200D You've basically gone from the smartprice to extra special version of the same sensor package.
Ok should I get something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B078W7474Q?smid=APHZCMKE0N3QJ&psc=1 Or should I just buy a 16gb CF card as tbh its not much more money, but is 60mps ok or should i be going for the higher speed ones. Anyone bought a used card from CEX?
Have the Canon 7D and am very happy with it. Excellent choice. I just swap out 8GB CF cards as and when I need it as am paranoid about losing photos and have a USB-C adapter to upload them to Google Photos through my phone when they're nearly full. Main lens is a Sigma 28-200mm Aspherical, that and the bulky body makes for a good heft in the hand! Excellent camera, takes some getting used to the myriad of controls but I've always preferred physical buttons and wheels to touch screen doodads. 133x CF cards are more than enough. 50MB/s read and 20MB/s write. Plenty of buffer in the camera anyhow. I put more faith in them than easily warped or lost SD cards.
Um can I shoot using the screen? I used to just press the camera button and it would change from the view finder to the screen on the 1200D. Edit.....found it never mind lol.
