Thanks sentinel....not what i wanted to hear lol...mabe ill stick with another decent card...what is better than the 5870 vapor x...thanks guys
Check this link for graphics card combined gaming FPS charts in descending order - not the be all and end all.... but it should help you make a decision. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2011-gaming-graphics-charts/Gamer-Index,2673.html
I'd personally stick with the 5870 for now as it's got plenty of grunt, and wait for the new GPU's at the end of the year That's my plan anyway, as my 5870 isn't struggling with anything...
480 Watts? For a single GTX580? You must be joking. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/11/09/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-review/8 http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2010/11/15/nvidia-gtx-580-power-limit-bypassed/1 ~360 Watts for the whole system including GTX580 under load as seen in bit's review is much closer to reality. An 850W PSU is the 'safe & sane' capacity to handle two 580s in SLI that I've seen recommended here and elsewhere, so 700W is more than enough for a single card. In any case, the quality of the PSU and its rails tend to be more important factors in practice. I'm running the following through my power conditioner at typical gaming load: -i7 920 @ 4GHz -GTX 580, overlocked -X58 mobo -3x RAM modules at 1.65V -An 18W pump -24" CCFL-lit screen -22" CCFL-lit screen -Two studio reference speakers -5.1 speaker system Total power consumption: ~420 Watts So in short, 700W is more than fine for a single GTX580 and you're not pushing it at all with that rig. The quality and efficiency of the PSU are more important factors and as long as the model you linked doesn't suck (I'm not familiar with it) you'll be just fine.
Cheers pete...thanks Zurechial ok chris ill look out for it, im staying in tomorrow and over the weekend mte thanks again guys Like pete suggested i might wait until newer the newer cards are out
You're entirely correct matey. I didn't read the smallprint on the consumption graphs. My apologies. Numanoid, ignore me. I just won donkey of the day award!
I've made that same mistake SO many times before with power consumption graphs and stats over the years.
