Okay I've already started to piece a few of these parts together, but after a long wait and saving over a year I should be ready to get my new rig by the end of the month, my intended spec follows:

(There is no link provided for the parts I already obtained through purchasing whilst on sale or at a discount offer).

    CPU: i5 750 - £139.99 + Flashpoint. (Yet shipping costs = £149)

CPU Cooler: Not certain right now but thinking: Zalman CNS9900NT - £42.99 *pukes* I kinda wanted the 1156 Titan Fenrir yet good 1156 coolers seem to be taking forever. At least it looks pretty?

    Mobo: MSI GD65

    RAM: 4gb DDR3 Corsair Dominator 1600mhz - £81.29

    GPU: GTX 260 (216 core)

    HDD: Samsung F3 1tb - £56.90

    Optical: LG DVD-RW SATA - £16.66

PSU: Corsair 750w TX - £89.70 (For future ability of SLI/Crossfire, yet also for the large use of fans)

Case: Coolermaster stacker x 6 green LED fans.

    Monitor: 24" Iiyama PLE2407HDS-B1 Widescreen LCD, 1920 x 1080 - £178.45

    Windows 7: Home edition
    ______________________________________________

My budget to this is pretty solid, so any advice for the other parts I'd prefer not to extend above £30/40. I decided to go for the GTX 260 as adviced in other threads that it's best to hold off on a high end GPU till next year.

I also chose overclockers for the CPU and CPU cooler as the i5 750 compared to scan's only works out a couple of ££ more expensive (as with overclockers ridiculous shipping costs) Yet seems I'd be getting Flashpoint with it, it works out at a better price. I wont be needing a stock CPU fan anyways - and therefore the CPU cooler from there just to compensate for not spending £9 on shipping a damn CPU

Erm, one question - will I really need the 70 amps provided from the 850w Corsair vs. the 52amp 750w? they each have the same connectors.
    _______

Basically, my system is going to be for gaming, quite simply. Intended for modern games at 1920 x 1080. Im prepared to sacrifce some eye candy with the GTX 260 till February but I've got Batman, Company of heroes, Modern warfare 2 and GRID to do me fine till then anyways.

Any areas of concern or better value from an alternate etailer or product?

(BTW I'm wanting to overclock my CPU to 4ghz.)

    Cheers.

If you're spending that much on the CPU cooler you might as well go the whole hog and get the Noctua NH-U12P or Corsair H50. Much better performance for only ~£10 more.

For the GPU, if I were you I'd be inclined to wait for the 5770/5750, which should be getting near the price of the GTX 260 but with obvious benefits.

You might also want to try to get a 1920*1200 24" monitor instead. Take a look at something like the Dell G2410, which is only ~£30 more and is has the advantage of LED backlighting so is less power hungry and pretty good quality for a TN panel by all accounts. No HDMI though, if that's an issue.

I went with a retail CPU, because im getting the h50 when the 1156 mounting finally gets released, The stock cooler seems fine at 3.33Ghz it would probably go more but im not seeing the point until ive got better cooling.

Im only using a corsair HX520 with my comp and havent got any issues, I wanted to upgrade it with the new hardware but as it runs fine i dont see the point.

A Dell G2410 would be nice, but the price difference is quite big and more or less the same with the CPU coolers :(

And I agree Titan the PSU is a bit overkill, but I more so wanted to make sure it was future proof so I wouldn't have to purchase a new PSU in the future, and I also will be using a heck load of molex connectors and I might do an SLI/Crossfire set up with the new GT300's/5800's (or later gens).

Cheers for all the advice so far.

Anyone? if it seems fairly solid then just say so. Main reason why I've posted is just to find out if it's alright or not and any advice I can answer to if theres a reason why I chose an item or if it's too expensive etc.

    I would change the cooler.
I have that cooler in another system and i hate it.
Can be v loud and it's not as good as my fenrir by a long shot.

Good choice of GPU, but there's a case for getting a 4870. 1GB of RAM will help gaming at 1920x1080. You'll probably save a few pennies and be able to put it towards your GPU in 2010.

^ Cheers, one problem with that, I have it already now :p was on a deal from scan and came with Batman, so was a bit silly to miss.

What CPU cooler do you recommend? I would like the titan fenrir but even though it's advertised on there site, the 1156 bracket isn't in etailers :(

    The Artic Freezer 7 Pro v2 - £20

Reckon I can hit 4ghz with that?

I doubt it.. The Scythe Ninja II - £37 or the Zalman CNPS10X-Quiet - £38

Maybe one of those is a better option... even better if anyone knows on ETA of Titan Fenrir 1156 brackets or any other good CPU coolers below £40...

    Zero,

I posted on the thread you made here titled Would this slight "mod" work for a i5 cooler? on the 5th of October but you never responded to that, did you even see it? The temp I get with the AC Pro V2 after pc's been on for about 10 mins is below and it stays like that unless I do something intensive

I think you'd be able to hit 4ghz with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 V2, I enabled Turbo Boost which took my i7 860 upto 3.4ghz and idle the temp wasn't too high, around 39 degrees celsius actually and you're only talking a 600mhz increase so I wouldn't think it would make the temp go up a lot more.

I mean from 2.8ghz to 3.4ghz it increased the temp by 10 degrees celsius so based on that with 3.4ghz being exactly 600mhz faster than 2.8ghz adding another 600mhz overclock you'd rationally think it would take the temp up by another 10 degrees to make it 49 degrees celsius and that's well within cpu tolerance limits right?

Oh forgot to post that the cpu temp is only 29 degrees celsius when I have the central heating on, it's cooler than that when it's off :D

P.S) Because your going for an i5 750, that'll run cooler than the i7 860 anyway so I'd go for the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2 if I were you.
