Graphics This cant be Right

Ok something is terribly wrong: Im trying to play counter-strike source with my new Geforce 6600 GT and i get an average of 7 FPS. Im hoping this problem can be fixed.
My Specs are:
Pentium 4 CPU 2.60 GHZ
768 mb ram
Geforce 6600 GT
Directx 9.0c

If you need to know anything else please tell me, now im kinda new to "graphics card knowledge" so if theres any settings that i should enable or anything i should download please tell me.

 

make sure that...
-you are using the most recent drivers from www.nzone.com
-you dont have excessive amounts of AA anf AF turned on in the control panel or in the game
-you arent running in a ridiculous resolution
(there are more possible reasons that it is acting up, but check those first and you can go from there)

the setting with which you are playing the game would be handy to know

 

How can i check how much aa and af im using? Im running it in 1152x864. And my video display for my computer is at 1280x1024.

 

in the video options for the game go to advanced and tell us what settings are u using in there.

 

Ok for th Model Detail: Low, texture Detail: Low, Shadow Detail: Low, Water Detail: Simple Reflections, Antialiasing Mode: None, Shader Detail: Low, Wait for vsync:disabled, Filtering Mode: Bilinear.
I set my game to some lower resolutions and i cant get 15 fps now.

 

well the card is definitely capable at playing the game with those settings, provided that AA or AF is not enabled at driver level

right click on the deskop, go to properties
settings - > advanced -> 6600GT
then go to "performance and quality settings" and make sure that antialiasing settings and anisotropic filtering are set to "application controlled"

if theyre all good, then check what driver version you are using, you can find out by selecting the top item in the same menu that you see "performance and quality setting", the bit that will say GeForce 6600GT. The version of the driver is "forceware version" towards the bottom
if it is anything other than 71.84, get this

Although my verticle sync was turned on in my driver settings, should this be turned off?

 

should be application controlled. but you could also try off as this will help performance.

 

Any luck? is this only this one game or is it many games?(possibly a OGL bug or somthing)

 

Not sure if this is at all relevent, but I know someone who get's the same sort of problem in UT2004, with a 6800GT. lowest resolution, all graphics down, and under 10FPS, the rest of his system is all very respectable

 

Yea this is with most of the games i play, in CS:CZ i get 30 fps but ever since i got this card nothing has changed game play wise.

 

if you run 3dmark 01 what score do you get?

hmmm I play UT2k4 with graphics on 'holy sh*t' on 1024x768 and get a framerate of minimum 70 and average 110, so it isn't the card. have you got all the drivers installed yada yada yada? Plus, reinstalling windows does help every once in a while.

 

Yea i was also thinking drivers or a really bogged down windows install.

I agree with what someone said above turn vertical sync off
I had a 6800 ultra with vetical sync on it crawled turned it off it flew

 

Thanks alot you guys, it turns out that the installation guy at best buy didnt plug the card into my external power supply. Im only getting an average of 60 fps in Condition Zero but hey its better than before. Thanks alot!

Ghehehehe what a prat. They should fire everyone selling videocards who neglects these kind of things and give me their job. Then I will have more money for modding.
