Alright, so I've got a nice long range PCMCIA Wireless card (802.11b) and I've got a PCI to PCMCIA bridge aswell. The PCI bridge is based on the TI 1410 chipset, and here is a link to where I bought it: http://www.moonblinkwifi.com/pd_pci.cfm The wireless card is based on the PRISM2 chipset, and here is a link to where I bought it: http://metrix.net/metrix/products/radios/pcmcia/NL-2511CDPlus.html Everything seems to work fine until I try to use the Wirless card. The Bridge installs fine XP finds drivers for the the 1410 and it's done. But when I install the wireless card and it's drivers I get an error in the device manager. This device cannot start. (code 10) I've tried using the bridge in different PCI slots, but nothing changes. Any ideas?
Ive got the same problem (firewire card), ive tried loads of things including all the PCI slots and BIOS resets but nothing happens. It's todo with the lack of resources avaliable, dunno why winxp cant dynamically change stuff though!? Only other conclusion ive drawn is that i have to reinstall the OS which im not prepared todo. If you find a solution, please let me know.
Have you tried any other PCMCIA devices in it? Or tried these PCI cards in other systems? The only thing I know to do is get a PCI configuration space reading program and see how it is getting programmed and see if I can figure out what's going on, but unless you know what I am talking about I can't imagine that would help. You might consider contacting the vendor/manufacturer for the PCI cards in question.
Try putting it into another computer and see what happens, if the same thing happens its probably faulty software or hardware. However I had a 'device cannot start' problem on my tv card, it turned out to be that I installed a Windows Update where MS decided to change my drivers, so I went and download a new version of the driver and program to run the TV card. hope this helps
hope this is some help.... I used to work on a Tech help desk where we got these on USB modems, I think the same will apply. When you see the device in Device manaer, right click and uninstall or remove. Once removed, keep it in the computer and then restart, try getting the Found New Hardware Wizard (FNHW) to find it. I might be blind but I didn't see anything saying that you have tried the manufacturers drivers? Try finding the driver file and in the FNHW point it directly at that with the advanced way. It might work, it might not. I know of another kb article from Microsoft for this problem I'll have a look and get back to the thread as soon as I can with it. [edit] Noth the one I had in mind, but may help: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;131782 [/edit]
WinXP doesn't have drivers for the device so I always have to install from the disc and point the device manager in the proper direction. I've tried many drivers but no luck.
I'm really out of ideas, but have you got SP1 installed? or SP2 installed? I'll do some searching at work tomorrow, as I work for microsoft I will try and find out the problem.
