I'm not usually one to complain but in three days I'm flying to Key West to do some deep sea fishing for the first time. This vacation is a gift and it's not costing me a cent. I get to fly to Key west, stay in a nice resort, get pampered, fed, boozed up and I get to fish, not to mention they are giving me $400 to spend at the resort. Lucky me huh? Well not really, I have all the sudden come down with a cold and to my recolection colds don't usually go away in a couple of days. I have been looking forward to this trip for almost a year and now it could be ruined by stupid f*****g germs. I am seriously bummed and want to know if this has ever happened to you. Also, anyone have any quick cures, I'm desperate. K, enough whining for me, I just want to get better so I can go catch a shark or something.
yeah this happens to me. every time i have time off school i get like really sick and cants enjoy or do anything on my vacation.
I have been told by several people that when you go deep sea fishing you will most likely hurl from the motion, I don't get motion sickness but I have a feeling now I might. Darnit, I'm still going to catch me a big @$$ fish, sick or not. I will post pics of my prize catch (if I get one that is)
Good luck with that. My Dad and I went to visit my gramps in Miami a few years back, went and did some sea-fishing in my gramps' boat. Had loads of fun. And my dad managed to catch a hammerhead that was 3' longer than the boat! THAT was interesting. And we were in an 18' boat...
2000mg of Vitamin C a day. They also make these cough drops called Fisherman's somethingoranother. They will clear your sinuses in a heartbeat, and you'll feel a hell of a lot better. They taste like crap though, so it might be rough not spitting it out. Good luck, and don't think I'm kidding about the above two. You'll be better in a day or two max. PS - Take better care of yourself, colds are avoidable, you know.
My dream come true, I'm seriously wanting to catch something much larger than me (not saying much, I'm only 5'6") Still it would be cool. Did you eat the hammer head? I hear shark taste really good.

fishermans friends, i think that is what he was referring too. dont take vitamin c tablets. pointless. your body will absorb only a small amount and the rest is pissed out. drink orange juice. lots

That is absolutely untrue. The body is capable of absorbing up to 4 grams at a time of Vitamin C before the excess is excreted, and it is very quickly processed via the body. 1g in the morning, 1g in the evening, and you'll most assuredly absorb it all, unless you drink 80 liters of OJ a day or something. Well, I suppose if you have a hydrochorlic acid deficiency you might have trouble absorbing it. If you are truly worried you're going to "waste" vitamin C, then just get Esterified C (calcium ascorbate and dehydroascorbate with 3 metoblites: calcium threonate, xylonate and lyxonate). I doubt beer has ANY vitamin C. Its prolly not that great for you either, if you have a cold. Just drink lots of OJ. and yeah, fishermans friend is pretty good stuff. and have fun!
where do I get this stuff? is it over the counter? I'm in the USA can I pick it up at a local drug store or do I have to go to a specialty shop? Is it like a cough drop? So many questions.
Ok, I got the vitamin C and the fishermans friends cough drops (cherry flavor) and some OJ, I'm going to take my meds and watch a movie. Thanks again for your advice.
Lucky you..I went on a deep see fishing trip from San Fransisco an Jesus I had to throw up for a INSANLY LONG TIME!!!Truely not fun... Anyway good luck...
Well I did it, I got over being sick and had the time of my life, I was the first to catch a fish and I got the over all biggest and the prize of the weekend. This was a sail fish, over 30lbs (US) and over 6ft long. It put up a pretty good fight, jumping out of the water and showing the whole crew how beautifull it really was. check it out. There were only four of us fishing, well five if you want to count my wife but she got very sick and was out of the game right off the bat, I didn't have any problems with the motion of the boat and after catching this big guy I was pumped. We let it go and Key West is sending me a plack for catch a release of a sail fish. I'm sill glowing, talk about a great time. The other fish caught were a small shark, a baracuda and a dolphin (mahi mahi)
