256k chips are the nrmal t/breds. It can be unlocked on the Durons though, as long as its not faulty....
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=34 All of these are t/breds, but seem quite expensive!
all the 1700+ to 2400+ are Tbred, and some 2600+, 2700+ and ?2800+? are t-bred too. Nearly all 2500+ to 3200+ that are being sold are barton.
if u wanna go for another cheepy board then i suggest a Asrock, built loads of systems with these boards in. They run cool, cheep and last long and there stable
There is a wide range of 1700+'s from Palominos to Thoroughbred B cores. the last Palomino was the 2100+ IIRC. But there are selections of Tbred A's and B's which were from the lower speed ratings. Check the Hardware FAQ for a detailed list of what was what.
Pallys finished at 2100 (256k) Tbred A s went from 1700 - 2200 (256k) Tbred B s went from 1600 - 2800 (256k) Bartons went from 2500 - 3200 (512k) Thorntons went from 2000 - 2400 (256k) Applebreds from 1400-1800 (also known as late durons) (64k cashe) The only way to know for sure what you will get is if they tell you Sometimes applebreds can have the cashe unlocked but ive had 2 and it hasnt worked on either. If you dont like o/cing then you wont like unlocking
whoops, forgot about the pallys you definatly don't want one of those. they make nice hand warmers though
XP-M 1500+ for £28, would be stable at 2GHz+, even if not, still has that 256kb L2. I would get a seagate barracuda... such reliable and noise free drives. Not quite the seek time of the Maxtor, but there by far the best for chugging along in the background.
IMO you should stick with the maxtor. I have had 2 of those for about 1.5 years now and they are perfect! Ive run them on there own and in Raid0 and they have allways been 100% relyable, very quiet, very quick and the most remarcable thing is they run at ambiant tempreture all the time with hardly any airflow at all! i couldent recormend anything else for your setup slater..
