but i'm just curious. has anyone ever thought of making his/her whole room a computer mod? that is have various parts connected and the room properly cooled with ducts and fans (or water cooling) etc. anyhow, im not really intending on doing such a thing - it's just for intellectual (ok, pseudo-intellectual) sake. anyhow the question arose as i was modding a computer for my roomate who has an extremely and pathetically small room. (i have a big room because i have a grand piano). so naturally we pondered upon this late night question. anyhow send pics of your abominations. i know there was that one guy who built the huge massive steel computer, perhaps some has gone for the bigger scale mod?
Well, I have my computer on my desk in the middle of the north wall, my scanner on the far southwest corner of my room on the floor connected though usb. My printer on a shelf in the middle of the east wall connected through usb. My PSOne screen on a shelf in the northeast corner of my room. And speakers in each corner of my room hanging from the ceiling. Does that count as a wired room? Although it would be cool to be able to control my lights from my pc but other than that I dont know how much more wired you could get. Hope you have more things to wire your room with. Be sure to include pics. And most of all have fun.
since you'd have the whole room to vent your equipment, you could probably get away with entirely passive cooling, and if you have central A/C, you wouldnt even ahve to worry about a too-warm room. with passive cooling and hard-disk silencing methods, you'd end up with a PC you wouldn't be able to ejar at all over any sort of AC or fan. go for it
How about if you have a slim monitor type, lcd, etc.. cut a rectangle in the wall, put some baseboard trim around it. Then use one of the fold out type clothes ironing boards, to mount your mouse and keyboard; put something fancy on the bottom of it, so it looks cool when it is up. For your pc, cut out the sheet rock, place the pc in the wall. Cover up the hole with a fabric type mesh that you see on the front of older radio speaker stacks. Cut hole in fabric for cd drives, and now no one will notice that you even have a pc in the room, if it is all put up, and you have a picture of dog showing as a screensaver.
i got as far as programming a port with relays to turn on and off a lamp with my pc but then i found out about this thing called a light switch and gave up hehe naa i really did do the light bulb thing tho... was a waste of time... but if u have a purpose to implement go for it
If you do end up doing this, make sure that you put a grill on the 120in blow hole you end up making in the wall..... Unless you want to paint the lawn
It would be nice to control everything with the computer. On a side note, I always thought it would be great if you had a large radiator (big enough to cool itself by convection alone) just under your desk on the floor, so you could warm your feet on it.
.....*wondering* what if the computer crashed, or was infected with bad software....mmmm.....might need a over ride big red switch.
