ok at newegg they sell cases with 400w power supplies for 25 dollers yet when you want to buy just power supply thats 400w it cost 50 dollers my question is. are they high or somthing why is the price messed up like that you get more for less and less for more thanks
The answer is that the cases with the PSUs are pieces of **** that are delivered in bulk. Thats why they can sell them so cheap. Dont ever get one of those.
Case power supplies are usually woefully underrated for the job they have to perform, whereas standalone PSUs are (usually) of a much higher quality (power correction capabilities, seperate voltage rails, etc.). Hence the difference in prices. I have found a few goodies in my time system building, but usually they are the first thing i ditch when putting a PC together....
Unless your PC will consist of an XP2000+ / P4 2.0ghz with FX5600 / Rad9600 don't skimp on the PSU. As said the generic junk that come with cases are intentionally over-rated to sell, where will your comeback be if it fries your mobo and components? Buying a good brand of PSU is well worth it as you can be more sure of ... * True rating, even when under extreme loads. * Better safety Shut-offs. * Cleaner power. * Consistently good voltages on all rails. * Better quality and quality control. * Generally both quieter and cooler running. * Generally a warranty and comeback if it stuffs up. A well branded 350W is often superior to most generic 400-550W and it needn't cost you an arm and a leg. Look at the excellent Antec cases which include a good Antec PSU; 3700AMB, 3700BQE and Sonata. If you do buy a seperate PSU good brands are Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake, ToPower, S.Flower (TTGI), Sparkle, CWT, Seasonic, Tagan, Hiper & Fortron. If your PC isn't going to be entry level protect and feed your PC's components with a good PSU.
