Since this is my first build for a while previous system was a p4 im unsure what temp's should be at idle

Room temp is prob 22-24degress atvm

I'm not entirely sure for the i7 but it seems alright to me.
    Your cable management however...

Seems fine to me - it depends on what it's like under load, with the case all sealed up though. :)

I was under the impression that the i7 cores were supposed to run cooler than the 775 chips? 60*C using one of the BEST air coolers you can buy under full load seems a touch too high to me...

Looks like the hsf is sat on the cpu ok though, as the core temps aren't out by much (i.e. core 0 and 1, and 2 and 3 are only 4c out at one point), so the contact seems fine. I just wonder if there was too much tim applied or maybe it's not quite gone 'off' yet?

What thermal goo (tim) did you use on the cpu/hsf? Artic Silver 5/Ceramique/?

i used the thermal paste given with the cooler, didnt add to much either the 4-5mm diameter spot they advised.

From what ive seen of a few other sites and a make who has the thermaltake exctreme cooler, his is only a few degrees lower sitting on the other side of the room, same case, same setup just different cooler

(We both thought it would run cooler, we didnt attach the provided intel cooler/heatsink went and added our new ones right away so we got nothing to compare the temps to, silly of us lol)

Under load was a differnt, was 4-5degrees cooler ~55C in comparision to 60C with cables everywhere, GPU was similar

Does it detail in the instructions that came with the cooler what the thermal paste is?

There's better thermal pastes available than the usual sachet of white goo that come with hsf's. They do make a difference.

Iirc, the best atm is MX2.

The Nocuta paste is supposed to be pretty good IIRC. Have you checked the mounting is good, and that there is good past contact between the HSF and the IHS?

yea when i removed it the it was spread nearly all over the processor from the little dot, i cleaned it and have reapplied and the results are the same.

So im assuming its in contact if its getting spread all over the CPU basically. I dont want to add to much either since it may dampen the results
