For some weird reason, ever since I reinstalled my machine (copied the data files back across for my emails) everytime I open an email whether its in the preview pane or not (when the preview is generated aswell) I get a significant lag on my whole machine. This never used to happen and its confusing me.

    Any ideas?

Does Thunderbird have a 'Compress Mail Folders' option like OE? Doing that might force a re-indexing and speed things up.

You can try going into the Profile folder for Thunderbird and deleting all the *.msf files. Thunderbird will rebuild them automatically whenever you next click on a folder.

Make sure you backup first, and have Thunderbird closed when you delete the files. But I guess you knew that already.
