    Hi,

can't find a simply answer, but I've got a mac mini late 2014 with a i5 2.6ghz with the Intel Iris onboard graphics and Thunderbolt 2 ports (2 of them) I believe that the TB2 is DisplayPort1.2? I want to buy a new monitor ideally a 144hz 1080p 27"... Will I be able to run 100/120/144hz at 1080P?

Apples page is very very vague and there's so much misinformation when googling... All I can find is how it can drive 4k @30 1440@60 and multiple monitors at 1080p...

I just want to know before wasting money on a higher refresh rate monitor that I can actually make use of it? I've just got rid of my 1080p 60hz monitor and only have a 60hz 4K tv so that is no help in testing it :(

    Thanks for any input!

DP 1.2 is rated for up to 4k/120hz, at 1080p it can go all the way up to 240hz.

In the Mac's case the limiting factor is probably the igpu, whether it will hit 120hz or throttle itself first I have no idea, but the DisplayPort's good for it.

Surely a high refresh is utterly pointless on a mac mini?

Thanks mate, it's intel iris 5100 on board graphic baked into the i5 cpu if that helps?

It just confused me because apple is very vague in the spec and is more interested in bragging about 4k 30hz and how many monitors you can run etc and they state how the hdmi out port only does 60hz but it has mini display port as well but they don't say what the max hz per res is on that output
Well anything above 60hz is nice and snappy for general movement of window managers and doing things transition wise etc isn't it?
I was buying a newer bigger monitor so it'd be nice to have the bonus right?
I'm right in thinking even if I run a native 1080p 144hz monitor at 60hz it'll still play nice and smooth though as its still at its native resolution?
What'd you mean? I genuinely haven't ever really had any issues with any of the Mac's I've owned since my first in 2008 onwards?

I'm more of a Linux guy at heart but I do like how I get some of my windows apps I still want in mac and all the open source goodies from Linux along with the nice stability.

I never tbh even had any issue when I started going down the rabbit hole with hackintoshes before eventually buying a real mac.
