Could the next major version of OSX (10.4 or Tiger to it's friends ;)) be out soon? Apple insider's back page (so take with a pinch of salt) are speculating that the gold master build could be ready in the next 60 days.

Wishful thinking? Maybe, but several people have discovered some new links on the Apple web page to service the new aspects of the OS, such as Spotlight and Widgets.

It's definitely going to be out in the next couple of months regardless. Tell me again - where's Longwait?

Now concentrate this time, Dougal. This OS is near to release; that OS is far away... ;)

I've mixed feelings about it, I'll have to install it when it comes out annnnd I'll probably have to reformat and do a reinstall (like to do things properly), I'm not looking forward to that!

Maybe Apple is just trying to throw us off. I can't imagine they're dumb enough to acutally post those links on their website by accident. :hehe:

What's stopping you? If you need a laptop now, get it. You'll just have to upgrade later, like the rest of us. :D

Its new and you have to pay the tidy sum of £99 for the priverlage ;) On the plus side of paying for Tiger or any Mac OS refresh every year is that they actually make there OS better (for the most part!).

And TBH, even if the rumors of an earlish release of Tiger are true, don't expect to see it for 3 months. Like I said, if you need a laptop now, I wouldn't hold off.

There's nothing wrong with Panther - and you don't necessarily have to upgrade to Tiger straight away. There are still Mac users out there using 10.2 (hell, there are still people who sware by OS9!!)

Not that I've heard - The Powerbooks got speed bumped last month, so I don't expect that they'd get a further spec change so soon. They also cut the prices as well.

IIRC, the 17" came out tops in the latest upgrade, as they can now drive the 30" apple display and they got an optical input / out jack (Something none of the other PB's have)
