I'm painting the inside of my computer chassis Sail Blue. I've been reading a lot about using 1000 and 1500 grit sandpapers to "make it stronger" and to "give it a mirror finish" If I didnt care about the mirror finish should I still sand between coats? If I'm using enamel paint should I wait 3 days before sanding and applying a second coat? One more: If I'm using a Polyeurothane Lacquer as a clear coat, wouldn't that be enough to protect my case from disaster? Basically I just want the color, no mirror finish. I've looked at a lot of tutorials and gotten a lot of contradicting directions. Thanks in advance! -Rob
Probably the main thing to do is sand the steel of the case. Alot of cases are varnished and this can cause problems with paint sticking to your case. And if you are not worried about a mirror finish you do not have to sand the color coats of the case. Read the directions on the paint. Some products will only stick together properly if they are sprayed on uncured paint or sanded paint.
you do want to at least wet and dry with a 1500+ paper to get a smooth finish, you will want to get all the scratches out otherwise they will show through the paint, sand it down, wet and dry, primer it, wet and dry, paint, then every lair of new paint wet and dry before applying to get a smooth finish. it is worth taking the time to do it properly first time around save having to redo it.
Well thanks very much guys. Although I got two different answers, I understand the +'s and -'s of sanding a case. Good thing I got the inside of my HAF sandblasted first.
