Did my masters thesis in Libre Office and I swear I will never use it for anything serious again. In the unlikely event I end up doing anything reasonably serious and lengthy I will use LateX. It's well worth spending the time to learn.

Wrote my thesis in latex, then ended up going to org-mode and converting to latex as I feel down the emacs hole.

Definitely nicer than trying to use something like word for it, once you got a little used to the process etc.

Even after only getting to grips with it for an hour or two yesterday, I am already preferring it for document authoring. I grew up on WYSIWYG editors - even back on my Atari STe I had WYSIWYG editors - and it's so much nicer to have really granular control instead of relying on the whims of whatever software you happen to be using. I'm going to make an effort to use LaTeX for written assignments on the undergraduate degree I'm starting.

Did you see Joe Lycett's piece on them? It was a bit of craic.

TIL - There's now such a thing as a gaming trackball, complete with RGB!

That started out well then, the last three words spoilt it…

When a gaming vertical mouse hits the market, I’ll be really interested.

That you can fit a 1080Ti cooler on a 980Ti with one minor mod.

That's because I did it this afternoon using V-T's cooler and my fanless shroudless 980 Ti reference card. Thanks to V-T's 'mad' idea, I now have a cooler running 980Ti ready to fit into my new case.
    Pics will follow

Yesterday, during the powercut, I learned the only shadow puppet I could reliably do appears to be, according to my OH, an ultra realistic shadow puppet of a uterus.

Not sure how this skill will aid me but still.

The tappy-tap-tapping they put onto TV shows or films when people are texting, I always thought "who doesn't turn off haptics or key sounds?", But actually, some phones just do that. My new pixel 6 pro is like a mini frickin hand drum.

Haptics. I need that because I have almost no feeling in my hands. I could see the annoyance.

So Rudolph's nose was counter-productive and caused glare?
If Santa knows who's been naughty or nice why didn't he do anything about Rudolph being bullied? What's up with that?!

TIL, or more confirmed that I'm not a bead balm / oil kind of guy, which is both pleasing and disappointing in equal measure
