Not a Tom's fan but the more people cutting into EA, the better. I really liked battlefield 2. I guess its pretty unfortunate that I can't play it. On the off-chance I make it into a server, the game crashes, usually within the first 8 seconds.

Yep they summed it up about right. Not being a console owner how do they overcome bugs on a ps2 or x-box? Can you patch them? I know that programmers don't have to write for many cpu types, gfx cards etc so is it less of a problem?

Although you can patch some console games (on the xbox at least you can), you'll find most of the time it's not necessary because it's a lot easier to alpha/beta test a game that is only available for a single hardware setup.

However, this doesn't at all mean console games are in anyway 'stronger' or more stable. They simply haven't been stressed as much as a PC game.
Just to hammer home the point, an example of just how brittle an xbox game can be: if you try to play some games and the hard drive is too full, the game can suffer some serious problems, or just down-right refuse to run. Pretty incredible, and that's only for one easily fixable problem.

EA arent doing too badly, they release patches at least, i was part of the beta testing fro mod tools, and throughout the provided good support for us etc. and the 1.03 patch is shaping up well to fix current problems

There is a simple solution to this that I adhere to myself. Don't buy the game for a few weeks. Find out how other people are geting on with it, if it's that bad you'll soon know and then you hold of untill it's fixed, if it never gets fixed don't buy it.

But the article was nice. It's good to see more EA hate around these days. Those guys are tossers.

i've never had any problems with BF2, i jst found it got old really fast.

BF1942 is still the best for gameplay of the entire series.

Downloaded the game as to not be arsed with paying to find out it wouldn't work right, found out I don't like the gameplay style at all, so free preview paid off. Regardless, I wouldn't buy an EA game no matter how popular how it is. I don't need an "EA: We own your life and your games!" loading video ever time I start the damn game... if I cared who made it, I'd keep that in mind when buying it (incidentally, EA is the one game maker I DO care who makes it, and it's to avoid their products at all costs). That plus the less-than-lacklustre support I've heard about through the forums just lowers my opinion of them that much more.

HL2 at least, despite how many patches it got since its release, worked fine for me the first day, and no patches have caused major problems for me that I can remember. CS:S has been getting steadily better (the positively crap netcode seems to have improved a lot). Steam hasn't treated me as poorly as it has some, but I guess I'm fairly lucky.

One of the few patches for UT2004 made it so I didn't need the disk in the drive to play (or in my case, use their OFFICIAL no-cd crack because the game wouldn't work right - thanks UT2004 support line btw). One of the patches did give me some problems where it would crash exiting the game, but the biggest problem I've had is how hard it is to download the things - they don't have an onsite download (anymore) or even an onsite torrent file, so now I have to wade through eighty-five pages of crap to wait in line to download the patch.

SC:CT worked great from the start. Stressed the crap out of my system with HDR and their game protection works too well for my liking (no-CD cracks refuse to work - though I can see where they're coming from, I simply HATE dealing with disks after installing the game), but gameplay and storyline were both fabulous, and no bugs that I can remember. I don't like the UBI loading screen (because unlike the Far Cry one, you can't "ESC" through it) but it's fairly short and I don't hate UBI like I do EA.

I don't like THG much, but you go guys!

The problem is, of course, that once you open software, you CAN'T return it for any reason. Exchange it if the disk is bad for the same title, but that's the absolute limit, at least everywhere I've ever shopped. So once you buy the game, you're fooked, they have your money, and that's all they care about. The most you can do is not buy the expansion or get a brand/publisher bias like what I've lovingly adopted against EA.

    You said it EA suck!

I bought NFSU and was not impressed. My bro bought it for the PS2 and it rocks on there.

Think I'm gonna stay clear of EA on the PC...

Steam is awesome and so is Battlefield 2. BF2 might be buggy but it IS EA, so it's hardly unexpected. As for Steam, I think it's one of the best things to happen to gaming: hard as hell to cheat? Check. Almost impossible to own without paying? Check. Easy to use and totally bug free? Check.

are you ****ing serios? you've never had team mates marked as enemey (red name), you've never been tk'd just by touching a team mates vehicle, never been booted out of a server or out of the game completely for no apparent reason, never had extremem choppiness when in a vehicle with another person (this makes choppering with a mate so ****ing hard :() etc etc. the list is endless
