1995 there weren't all that many people downloading, so the last few years will swing the voting, and especially since broadband introduction.

But I think they've just done some categories, like top browser, top spyware remover, top p2p, etc. Some of the rivals to the 'winners' must beat Firefox's claimed 50M+ world-wide by a streak.

    Morpheus - 135.2M
    iMesh - 96.6M
    Limewire - 61.9M
    Spybot - 59.6M
Unfortunately, the BBC video stuff is all Real and the Real Alternative has problems. But the Real Enterprise version can be made no-phone-home easy.

    *possibly*

But then again, Firefox have been claiming the same 65m+ users for a while now, and surely tens of thousands minimum would see the light each day. Also consider that our logs show over a dozen different versions of Firefox - there's all the betas and then 4 further revisions after 1.0 came out. IMO most people keep their chosen browser up to date - especially if the software informs them of a newer version - so you're talking up to 65m people downloading 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 etc - that all adds up... :)

It is an amazing software and could be very great. There are few problems with it but there are also important advantages over other players. You would be amazed how many PC's has RealPlayer installed on them.

Aye - RealPlayer has been blacklisted from my PC for years for that very reason. I find most streaming media useless anyway, so I either find a download link, stream in WMV or go without - no video would be work installing that horrid garbage

I wonder why people behind RealPlayer do this? Do they hate the software they're making or do they make more money from having so many ads instead of more users... hmmm
