Went to see this on Saturday night, and it's bloody brilliant! It may only be a 12A, but boy does it make you jump! Very, very good - Recommended!
I saw it the other day and actually thought it was pretty poor. If it weren't for reasonable acting by Mel Gibson, it would be basically unwatchable IMO! There seemed to be a distinct lack of real storyline and the only jumpy bits were in the trailer At least it did have a little bit of humour in it! Still, only my opinion!
Well there you go - two pretty polarised views. Anybody else seen it? I'll agree that the acting isn't that stellar, but I put that down to the stilited dialogue the MNS writes. It was the same in 6th Sense. But hey - I enjoyed it - and that's what matters to me!
As it is with any film/book etc. Individual perception is the keyand anything in the public eye will draw highly subjective views! To be honest, it is just nice to see an alternative viewpoint on the subject IMO!
I enjoyed both the 6th Sense and Unbreakable, and own both on DVD. I think I'll wait for some more opinions before going to see this one in the cinema.
wanted to see that yesterday but slink wouldnt watch it with me, he wanted to watch stuart little 2 , in the end we went bowling. I will get to c it even if i have to go on my own
on the jump out of your seat level is it the same as ring natural born killers (god that movie was weak, dunno why i own it)
I saw it when it came out and I loved it... I think mostly because it wasn't what I expected. Nothing worse than a movie not meeting expectations and living up to hype. Had a good rythem of laughs and fright... nine thumbs up.... my two $.02
I laughed, I cried, it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions... well, actually, it was pretty good, but the story drifted off away from its real purpose (asking is there a God?) and turned into any old alien story. Personally I liked Joaquin Phoenix (I like pretty much anything he's in) and there is no better child-director than Night. I dunno, I was a bit dissapointed when I saw it, but I guess my hopes were too high. Oh, and unbreakable was one of the worst movies ever, the whole thing was a setup for the final twist, unlike 6th sense and signs where the twist was almost accidental and intelligently interwoven. I give it 4 stars (out of 5)
I don't wish to give too much about the movie but I liked that it wasn't an alien invasion movie... it just so happened that an alien invasion happend while Mel Gibson was going through some stuff . I think it appeals to me because I am tired of Hollywood's lack of originality, seems that everything that is done now is just a rehash of something that was done during the golden era and now they have better effects. I am a reluctant Joaquin Phoenix fan but I have to admit, I like everything he is in.. BTW, I saw the orginal version of "The Razor's Edge" this weekend on Turner Classic Movies... excellent movie.. the version with Bill Murray was always one of my favorites. Now I have to dig that VHS out of the mountain of unlabelled tapes and watch it again after seeing the original.
I thought this movie was absolutely superb. Got to see it early at a radio1 preview, and i knew NOTHING about it, except that some crop circles were involved. I think that really helped, as I didnt know what to expect. you guys have kinda spoilered it a little, but the real story is more within the family and how they get on... just go watch it! top movie and i very rarely give movies real praise like that. class.
I loved it... I liked the fact that you didn't see the aliens much (Kinda like the movie Alien) until the very end.... loved the scene with the video camera at the kids party too! Yeah, it had me on the edge of my seat for most of the movie too.
I was dissapointed with signs. I didn't jump. Not once. I consider it more of a family movie than a scary movie. The aliens, IMO, are jokes. A) water kills them, but they can walk around in the humid environment. B) they can jump to the top of a building, but can't kick down a door. Finally, you only see the full alien once. Only thing that was missing was a big bright-pink zipper tab
I went to go see it Thursday and thought it was pretty cool, maybe a bit too slow in the start, and Mel's character is one hell of a calm guy, I mean, would you really be so damn calm all the time if you were in his place!?!?!?! I would have been sh!tting myself. Good overall though, worth watching it IMHO.
I agree, it was a good movie...glad it kept to the story of the characters rather than the invasion thing. Anyone else jump when the dog barked? Thats the first time I spilled popcorn all over myself in a movie. Was totally not expecting it. If you've seen it, you know what Im refering to...don't want to give it away for those that haven't.
mel gibson was braveheart and mad max tho, so hes probly hard as nails and wouldnt flinch even if your granny walked intothe room naked
I personally found it laughable when it came out here in the states. It seemed down right comical the way the aliens were portrayed making it seem to me like a bad B-Movie, or a Scooby Doo skit with bad guys dressed up as aliens. The trailer made it seem so much better then it really was, in the end to me a waste of $7 besides the comedy of it all.
Oh yes... That's up there with the 'Body in the boat' bit in Jaws. That still makes me jump even though I know it's comming!
bah since u all spoilered it to buggery already the alien at the kids party in their vid was well ghetto, and i thought it was pretty pants, but i forgive them for it since it didnt really spoil things. i dont like "jumpy" films. thats cheating imo, its not scary its just shock value. this isnt a jumpy film really, altho there are a couple of moments where u get a little shocked (bit in the coal basement for example?) but the scenes are done really well. i still say SUPERB. go watch it
