Easily take it over a Ferrari? Bit of a generalisation there :D

Too right atanum. I would have loved it if they'd started off talking about the original, and then brought in the GTR. That Datsun was a bit random...

Lol. I could probably find a Ferrari to overtake it, though I might actually take this over a Ferrari - or at least, the V-Spec model about to be released. ... Annoying that you would have to de-restrict an import model though...

I don't know why but i would. 4 wheel everything and the idea that it can handle more than 1000bhp whilst drift is too tempting for me.

I don't know of any GT-Rs with anywhere near 1000hp (yet). R32/33/34 Skyline GT-Rs yes, but they're not exactly driveable in that state of tune.

In the dreamworld where I could afford to run and insure either of them, I'd rather have a tasty Ferrari, maybe a F430 Spider with a manual box? But for that sort of money I'd personally have a sensible comfy barge of a Merc/BMW and something fun like a supercharged Honda-engined series 1 Elise, Ariel Atom, Caterfield, Radical or the like.

Fantastic episode but disappointed Jezzer didn't say more about driving the GT-R, although it's good there's a track test later in the series :)

Just a question more than anything. They were talking about the specific parts for the GT-R - the gearbox and that. If you knackered it (and come on, if you bought one, then you're probably gonna play with it a little), how much would the repair cost be?!?

That is a good point... you'd need a pretty expert job since it isn't a case of just installing a new part (which can be expensive on its own). Hopefully it won't break...? :p I suppose if it is to be treated as a supercar, we might expect supercar like costs?

Not keen on the GT-R, too blingy in the dashboard for me.
At the end of the race they admitted it was rigged to be close, probably meaning Jezza knew exactly how to turn the satnav back on at any time.

If I won the Lotto, I'd have the Alfa, but I'd hand it over to a tuning firm like Prodrive to make it work properly! :dremel:

@IanW: the Alpha was lush and perhaps Prodrive would make it not suck, love Prodrive: they're awesome

Still like the GT-R though :D

The Alfa looked great in black. Only seen it in red before which makes it look turd IMO.

I'm not so sure about Clarkson knowing how to turn the Satnav back on. Anytime there's been any kind of challenge where he has to actually do something other that drive a car (best example I can think of was when they built the Caterham kit car) and especially anything remotely technical his approach tends to invlove hitting things with a hammer.
You can also witness his expertise if you look at any of the challenges that involve any kind of modification to any of the cars - cack handed cnut is one phrase that comes to mind.

I do believe that the intention for the race challenges is that they should be close, where things fall apart is when the team either start bickering amongst themselves or they start making a mess of things by either being smug and overconfident or just plain hopeless. Classic example of the latter was from Sundays show when hampster went to look for the vending machine on the train and the train split in two.

Oh and by the way, I almost let out a little bit of wee with the beaver comment, juvenille schoolboy toilet humor I know but bloody funny. It flashed me back to the first time I saw the original Naked Gun film and Leslie Neilsen looked up Priscilla Presley's skirt whilst she's up a ladder and said "Nice beaver!" and she says thanks "I've just had it stuffed" and hands him down a large stuffed beaver. I think I missed the next 10 minutes of the film from laughing so much, I guess I just have a warped sense of humor.

well earlyer in the race he was fiddling with the computer, showing off all the graphics. so it is either that it was off to make things closer cos he knew how to get it back or when it went off it went off in a way he could not get back the same as before?
