Hey guys. I have a ATX PC case and it sadly has a top mounted power supply. Is there anyway i can rotate this... Some one said just flip the case. That works but that means the feet are in the air and the roof is on the floor. Also the optical bays are upside down that way. Could you help me with a way of how i could get the PSU placement to the bottom. That would be fantastic Thanks Guys Ryan CombatMods
Okay the case is a really cheap Novatech Cougar... It is ATX and i found it out from my garage where all the old stuff goes. It is in good condition. Shame it has a top mounted PSU. I also have an Icute Dual fan but again top mounted and it is annoying me cause it is screwing up cable management and all that. here is a link: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/cases/nov-cougar.html
What motherboard do you want to fit- full ATX or M-ATX ( smaller )? If the former, then the only other place to put the PSU would be up front in place of the 3.5" mounts ( remove some or all of them, then run a short power cord extension so that the PSU still has an external connector on the outside of the case as it were: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/0-5m-IEC-...uting_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item41682d5a88 or a panel mounted one, just means removing the end of the short extension and soldering the 3 wires in place: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MULTICOMP...al_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item2ec0e993c8 or just run the normal cable out the back if you aren't fussed about looks. if you are using an M-ATX board however, then you could mount it to the bottom of the case- just means making a new mounting panel to replace the PCI slots you will have to cut away.
Thank you that is a very good explanation. I am hoping to use a mATX board but the front psu sounds cool. I could route it round the back through a custom hole then back out the top. No issues there. Update: I got to work on the holes and it works perfectly. Thanks again for your help.... REP +1
No worries, just be sure to mount the PSU to something with a few standoffs or grommets, don't cover the fan & exhaust, and don't just let it sit in the PC case unsecured to something. Someone mounted their PSU in an upright position at the front of their case recently- not the easiest job but the result was rather nice, so it is possible with a little planning..
+1 There's nothing "wrong" with having a top mounted PSU. It's more important to get your cable management right to make sure you're not obstructing airflow through the case.
