so i acquired a Dell Inspiron 1100 notebook that packs a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2612 Drive . I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro (it came with home *blech*) but my driver CD had file corruptions so i took it and put it in my Main Rig and thru some swindling and ISO'ing and other things was able to burn a clean version of the driver disc. I popped the BURNED driver disc into the Inspiron and got all the drivers successfully installed. well, now, 2 days later, i burned some setup files, mp3s, pics, etc. onto discs and the notebook's drive wont read the discs!!!!! it says "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows." (word for word) to double check that it was a quality burn, i popped it in my 2nd desktop rig and it worked, played the audio files, etc. so i decided to pop in the CD that i had burned 2 days previously that worked on the notebook and now that wont work! i pop in a Nero-install CD and the auto-run shows up instantly, i try another non-burned CD with the same result, auto-run showing up right away. then i try a burned disc again with noooooo luck. so what is a boy to do? thanks, and thanks again.
Sounds like the drive could be on it's way out... Have you tried cleaning the drives' lense? May be a good excuse to purchase a slimline DVD burner
i dont have a laser lens cleaner anymore, any make-shift ideas? i dont think the drive could be on it's way out because i got it from a a friend who got it from his friend who never used it, then my friend got it, and he screwed the resolution up right away and gave to me to fix, and now he doesnt want it anymore.
