Ive got a Toshiba M40 here (nvidia 6600 model - Canada) that refuses to work most of the time. if i do get the thing to boot into windows, even the slightest touch sometimes will cause it to reboot. ie, sometimes it will boot, ill navigate around a bit, and as soon as i rest my hand on it, or pick it up, it reboots.

does it running on the adapter alone, adapter with batt in, or batt only. does it with the drive/wireless and so on installed or not.....

i suspect it might be a motherboard, but heres the kicker...

boot into safe mode, and it will run all day, you could kick the thing around and it keeps on ticking.

ive striped the notebook to its last screw and re-assembled it ensuring everything was nice and tight...and it had no effect.

    Thats weird!
You could try disabling power management features in relation to the lid closing and buttons being pressed incase theres a dodgy switch or sensor somewhere.
Set them all to "Do Nothing" and see if it helps.

Failing that, I have no idea!

Had a similar problem with my Tosh sat pro M30. Sometimes would boot, sometimes wouldnt. It eventualy stopped working alltogether, I had it to bits on a number of occasions to no avail. I too put it down to a bad board and sold it for parts.

I kept on getting CMOS errors when resuming windows from hibernation. Ring any bells??

Of course it could be something totaly different, see if you can find a cheap replacement board and try that. I looked all over for a board but they were all around the same price I payed for the lappy.

Sorry I cant be of more help, good luck!
