hi all, ive just been given a toshiba laptop to format and install vista home, thing is ive changed the boot up sequence to boot from cd/dvd, waiting for the "press any key to continue" to come up, instead it boots up and runs the os ?????? how can i get it to boot from cd so i can format it, can i just put the windows disk into the drive and run it, im confused here thanks guys take care ps the vista cd is in the drive
Try disabling the HDD in BIOS, see what happens then (you then probably won't be able to install anything to it until you re-enable it but it'd be interesting to see what happens). Is it possible to format the drive from BIOS? Until a better answer comes along I'd just try opening the installation disk when it's all booted up.
hi silver just thinking m8, could i use my xp pro disk (original) to just format the hard drive and then put the vista disk in thanks m8 take care
Yeah, if that works go for it. The formatting's the important thing - once that's done, the Vista disk should work fine.
hi m8, all was going well, until this came up "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer, make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. setup cannot continue. to quit setup press f3 what gives ???????????
Bizarre. How far into the process did you get? Is it formatted yet, or not? If not, will it start up as it was doing previously?
Does this thing have RAID, by the way? What's the model of notebook? http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives...-hard-disk-drives-installed-in-your-computer/
hopefuly all is ok silver m8, ive just found the factory default settings on f8, so its sorting it with a bit of luck, the laptop is a toshiba equium u400-145, with the xp disk m8, i got as far as press enter to continue, and then that message on screen take care m8
