Just got back from a TVRCC trackday at Curborough Sprint Track.

    Had sooooo much fun.

Even though all the other cars had atleast 3 times the power that we had, I was going round just as quick.
Had some instruction and was told that I was going round pretty much spot on, just had one area where there was a better line to take, which I then started using and it was much better. Really pleased that I was as good as I thought I was going to be, :D.

    Video for proof, :D:D

And on tuesday we'd been at Cadwell park on a trackday, so the cars had a right thrashing, but its not let us down.

Nice one, you really follow the line almost perfectly (or atleast what looks to me like the line):D! Can i ask though, it seems when you are on the back straight like you are creeping out of a junction in a 30mph road or something. Is it the video or can the car not put down the power without losing traction?

Do you mean at the end of the back straight? Or during it.

During that back straight, I was hitting about 60mph, then braking to probably about 30-40mph for the hairpin.

The car does only have 85bhp at the wheels. And the carbs aren't quite setup yet as if you floor it the car just splutters, you have to gently feed the throttle in.

The videos do seem to make it look slower, my other camera makes it look even slower.

Oh and did I mention it was only my second track day, and the second time I've ever driven the car. :D

Well i have to say you seem to have a fantastic driving style, smooth and sweeping:thumb:.

I meant during the back straight you seem to be going slow, but it is probably a combination of the video making it look that way and the fact that i've recently been looking at videos for little nitro rc cars that hit 60mph in 4 seconds :p.

If you don't mind me asking, do you own the car you drive or was it a track day rent like thing? Do you have any pics of the car? I ask because i've been looking at track days myself (more as a learning experience than for racing etc) since my parents think it would be a good idea for me to learn the basics at a driving course track so i have a headstart. I'm all for it of course because my mum said she would pay for it and i love cars :D.

Its my dads car. We bought it as a project to do up and then take to track days, and then once I can afford the insurance I will probably buy it off my dad.

So he drives it to the track, then we both drive it at the track, although he lets me drive it at the track more, :D.

The two trackdays we've done so far have been TVR Car Club exclusive days. Which is nice as its all TVR enthusiasts who love their cars as much as you do, so at somewhere like Cadwell where there was more than one car out at a time, you didn't need to worry about some idiot in a £200 banger crashing into you.

At this track, it was just one car at a time due to the small track and the fact that the start bit is one way only really.

All of my experience has come from racing on games on my computer and xbox. Which seems to have paid off quite nicely. :D

It all depends on how well you think you'll do on a track as to whether you think you'll need any instruction, (if that makes sense). IMO, if your really into it, and no the racing line and the basic theory, you'll probably do quite well. As everyone has told us though, an instructor will make you go faster.

There should be some pictures of the car in my photobucket album that the video is in. Its a TVR 1600M btw. Only 85bhp, but it grips and grips and grips, just like a go kart, :D

    *EDIT*

Just had a look and theres not actually any decent pictures of the car in that album. Heres a few, not got many actually of the outside of the car. :D

If you've got facebook, I've got an album of pictures that were taken by professionals on there from cadwell.

Think this is the right link

You mean the reverse corkscrew? :D:D, just at the mountain.

Yeah, cadwell was excellent, unfortunatly I only got two sessions and my dad got one and then at lunch time, it started raining, so we decided to call it a day as we didn't want to ruin the day by crashing.

The club is organising a day at Oulton later in the year, which I'm sure we'll be going to, :D

That is one awesome looking car, the classic looks are brilliant :)! I'm very jealous of you buying and doing up a car with your dad, always wanted to do that:thumb:.

You lucky SOB ! I dream of going to trackdays one day with my NSX ... The ultimate achievement would be to bring my car to germany and drive it on the nordschleife

For the record, I don't own the car yet but I still say "my NSX" because I will own one ;)

Track days are fun right up until you get the bill for new tyres :)

I'd love to be able to drive around the Nurburgring. I could do it in a Volvo for all I care, it would still be awesome.

they won't laugh if you overtake amateur drivers in a porsche. Big expensive car does not equal good driver

The people who take those sorts of cars to track days are probably more likely to be driving more cautiously for fear of sticking it into the armco. I, however, in my 1.0L Corsa, would have no such fears and would be ragging it around as fast as it could physically move. I know what I'd have more fun in :D

But realistically, 99.9% of people aren't good drivers. Some are just better than others ;)

I have done Curborough a couple of times great fun. Your 1600m sounds fantastic great looking cars too. Videos of track days especially sprints always look slow unless you have huge power. I mount a camera on the nose cone which helps. I did have the unfortunate pleasure of being in my brothers GT4 when he spun on the molehill.
