Nexxo, well, thanks, but the toner transfer method is widely known and I didn't invent it)

True, but it is usually applied to etching PCBs, and using gloss laser printer paper. You're applying it to etching labels and are using magazine paper (ghetto style! :p). Nice lateral thinking.

It is indeed brilliant, but a true showman would have followed up the use of clit bang with printing on a glossy nudie mag page.

    -Still, fantastic work.:D

    Thank you.

So, as I have planned, I'll tell you about painting. I chose the RAL 7024 colour and brought the parts to a paint shop. After a couple of days they were ready.

The aluminium housing was not treated carefully, so I had to straighten it.

Other parts survived painting without damage.

Some parts I painted myself, like these plastic feet.

I used a can filled with paint of the same colour.

    The screws:

I also found authentic aluminium rivets (for the front panel labels).

But they were too big, so I reduced their size with dremel and sandpaper.

And finally the labels were painted too.

Then I filled text grooves with dark whiteand a bit yellowish paint using a toothpick, but didn't take photos of the process.

In the next post I'll show you some new parts that were not shown or mentioned above. Hope you will enjoy it ;)

Let's look at the projected front panel for one more time.

In the center you can see an indicator lamp, covered with a transparent cap. At first I was planning to make it the only indicator on the front panel, for both Power and HDD LEDs. So I made a combined LED holder from empty solder wire tube.

The central bright LED is surrounded by four less powerful, which create uniform peripheral illumination. The cap inside is additionally covered with tinfoil.

In the darkness, when both indicators are active, it looks like this:

In the bottom of the front panel on my sketches there was a big round socket. It had a transparent bottom, so I was planning to illuminate it, too, but later my friend ALS gave me a better idea. He has just made a dekatron HDD indicator, and offered me to use it in my project.

You can see, what does a dekatron look like, in this video:
    https://youtu.be/iF8CnG7ee-A

This kind of a vacuum tube was used in early computers, so it suits my project perfectly. When HDD is active, the dekatron will have the orange light rotating, and the speed depends on the level of HDD activity.

The hole I've made for the socket came in handy for the dekatron.

This photo is taken with long exposure, so you can see the whole ring glowing.

And just one more detail: i have ordered a new leather handle from Netherlands. It was made to be used with grammophone, but also suits ideally for my case.

In the next post I'll show you the whole project completed!

Amazing amount of small details, ingenious techniques, infinite skills, weird old fashioned gear that you are able to revive affter full dismounting, an extreme care and an exemplary accuracy in your work, fantastic, I am a great fan of your moding.

I was considering a dekatron HDD indicator (there are some circuit designs on the web) but in the end couldn't work it into the design. I think it is a perfect fit for yours, though.

Also consider a magic eye tube somewhere. :)

ALS has also helped me out with a little detail. Eventually you'll see. :D

Russian modders are some of the best in the world. Seriously, everything they do is just pure hardcore art.

I remember this guy way back around 2000 made a passively cooled PC. The motherboard was suspended inside a wooden case between two copper bars clamping down the middle over the CPU and Northbridge area, with an elaborate array of copper-finned heatsinks, fanned out in arcs sprouting from the top bar. It was beautiful.

This is incredible and I agree with Nexxo. All of the highest level mods I've seen have been Russian.

I agree too, Russians are top level modders...Bootsector, S-PIC, and remember the Streamliner by AIO, all of them top level, with a very particular unique and genuine Russian touch of their own, that I always enjoy...

And as a bonus — the video where I show the main features of this build. I'm speaking Russian, but I made English subtitles for you.

    Thanks for watching!
