yeah i read all of those, they dont help me
i have installed a fresh windows 2000 on new drive

is there any way to transfer everything over from a windows me setup to a windows 2000 setup on a diff drive, ideally i want it the exact same as before with programs and everything but the odd thing here and there would be helpful too

well i guess it depends how bad this person wants all his applications on a new pc, is he willing to spend 50 bucks on additional software, which is not always 100% perfect.

For example you have these 2 options (to purchase)

    IntelliMover
    and
    PC Upgrade Commander
    even on
    e-bay

i dont think there's any other way around it but to start from scratch....winzip.com anyone?!?! :)

    good luck!

    nah, i wouldnt buy anything
the person was originally expecting a completely new pc, which she assumed would mean she had to re install things

i was just wondering if there was a files and settings transfer wizard for 2000 like in xp

i have told her that it is good to start over once and a while anyway
most of my customers know nothing about computers, so they end up making a mess on them and then i clean it up for them :D

edit: wecome to the forums by the way :thumb:
wherabouts in florida you from, im in florida for about 3 month of the year usually, love the weather

    that's how we make the $$$ :)

the best way is to have them reinstall everything again. You could save their favorites, emails and email addresses (if using outlook) but the rest is history

i should look into that xfer wizard in xp. Does it only xfer data or applications. I thought i heard only data.

thkz for the welcome, I am miami, fl. Unlike you, I hate the weather! you're in Chicago? Rather be there, only for the summer time...winter is prob tooo cold for us hot heads down here! :)

    7.5 months/year in nottingham uk
    3.5 months/year punta gorda florida

that is sweet stuff, fun job being in different places.

i just tried a little xfer wizard test, it picked up realplayer, winzip, and acrobat. it recommended to reinstall those applications in the new pc for the progs to work properly. It gives you a list of progs, I didnt see the other 20+ junk of apps that i have installed. that intellimover might be a handy software to have for any picky customer, but either way, new start is better, dont want to xfer any funky registry setting.

yeah, im just installing the necessities on a fresh install now, oh joy, how fun

it isnt the job that takes me around, i go to uni in nottingham, know loads of people in chicago (having grown up there) and my parents are in florida (the perfect reason to visit)

i just manage to land a load of freelance work from doing a few things for a few people, and then those people telling a few people and then etc etc you get the idea, so it has worked out quite well so far. i think its because i build computers in puuuurdy cases, so all of their friends and colleagues want one too :D

i hope it's not too late but check my posting about the drivers on the cd. the first link i provided gives batch and command line parameters to install most of the basics, dx9, wmnp, blah, blah, blah. You could give it a try, if you have time of course. I am itching to try it out!

what cases do you use to build, all fancy with lights and water cooling. freelance? building PC's....that's some good freelance work!

normally antec cases, because they are reasonable cheap and come with a decent power supply and are just not your normal beige box, every so often ill get one that wants a window

wouldnt dare do watercooling for people that dont even know the difference between a hard drive and a motherboard
