Now that looks cool, really nice job on the paint, both colours compliment each other perfectly.

Thank you! But trust me, I am a complete n00b in airbrushing :D

Thanks I really enjoying the new experience in airbrushing. Too bad the compressor makes too much noise.

I am stunned too... That thinner used in those paints makes me that way. BTW, I AM using the respirator mask... Thanks thou:thumb:

Slipperyskip. One of my idols is here :D I am really honoured to receive you here, and better yet, receiving a compliment by you. Thank you ;)

Hail "compatriot" - this word exists in english too?
The first mod is complete. I will be posting it here any time soon :D

Actually those colors where chosen because they are "similar" to the ones in the kamaleon used in the Scarab sculpture.

About the acrylic sculpture, it was really fun to make it :D glad i am receiving some positive feedback on it :D

    I will ;) Thanks :thumb:

Thank you so much :D If you are interested, here is another acrylic sculpture i've made for another mod back in 05:

    Thanks man! ;)

That's the whole point of a wLog, isn't?

As for that scarab, just for the sculpturing I spend less than US$ 5 on it. The paint itself cost me some more money because I couldn't buy just the amount I need for it (like 10ml). But if I would calculate all the costs for that, it would be less than US$ 10.

All you need is patience and persistence ;)

    Thank you 4rm :D

I have finished the first case. I am mounting and taking pictures of the relevant things in the process.

    See you all soon :D

    Scarab Finished

I've finished the modifications for the first of the three cases - the Scarab Project. In the first part of this update, the final touches in painting and mounting the case itself.

    Partnership:

I've painted the front piece with the color scheme used in the rest of the case. Changed the mirros used in the original case with this lime green acrylic. Besides that i've painted the removable parts with the kamaleon color used to paint the scarab itself. Note the little Y. That was hand made with a 2mm alu sheet and will be present in all three cases of this lot.

This was the most fun part of building this case. Very delicate too. Any wrong move could ruin the thines part of the letter.

In the side panel that the scarab is mounted, I passed a thin coat of silver paint so the bug itself could stand out a little more and the linearity of the gradient will be less.. linear :D
    [IMG]

To make things easy when removing the side panels I made two handles. One for each.First i drilled the panels:

    Then I marked the handles.

    Tap drill bit used.

As I told in other previous post, I have made the left side panel to open as a door. To do that, i modded 4 M3 allen screws with rounded head. They were filed and chanfered.

    Thats why:
If I didn't chanfered it, the bolt in the upper screw wouldn't fit well and the hinge wouldn't close well.

    Hinges in place.

Ready to bem screwed in place - the pict was taken upside down, aye.

Beautifull satinless steel screws in place:

Remeber those modded thumbscrews in a previous post? Here's how they work:

And the case is now ready to go to the unready improvised photo studio i mounted in my house:

Soon enough I will post the final eye candy photos of the case.

    Cheers fellow modders!
