What's interesting about this in regard to other troll physics is that using everyday assumptions for pretty much all physics problems up to A level (I can't comment on beyond, but I imagine a few stick around :p) - ie frictionless environment - this could work and create a perpetual motion machine. (EDIT: At least as far as I have been able to gather from this thread and by exercising my brain far more than I want to. The one area I can't quite wrap my head around is Nexxo's argument that it would be hard to push a balloon into water from below, because I simply can't imagine that scenario, and don;t have the knowledge to work it out.)

The vast majority of other troll physics are just completely wrong, like the free slipstreaming by having a car in front... that's attached to your car.

EDIT2: Nexxo's post in the other thread explained it for me. Crisis of understanding over :thumb:

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

you put too much faith in people :D

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motionless_Electrical_Generator

you can fool anyone with the right con.. but looking at it from a tin foil hat point of view- maybe the laws were made to stop people from creating one =] it'd be fun to experiment and try new things that break the laws- look at quantum physics if you need a reason to try

I know a educated person looks at this and goes.. ah whatever- but he's not rolling in money like the motionless electrical generator guy who got his degree online

Patents concern ideas. There is no obligation to make them a reality. ;)

Getting funding of course requires the demonstration of a working prototype. :D

sometimes I wonder why not be a weasel, long as your not hurting anybody

sometimes it sucks going into your bank account and (knowing it could be a lot bigger) knowing there's a fool out there somewhere making hand over fist on a raise he gave himself

or just make a device that people want.. patent it then sell the patent to cleetus on shark tank

Until you discover that someone already has made it, patented it, and no one really wants it which is why you never knew it existed already. :(

What i'm suggesting would work!!111 And best part of all, is that it could be built for under a million bucks, way under the trillion dollar budget!
(assuming magical frictionless seals were provided by Relix or other God like entity) I suppose a trillion dollar version could be built to power a low wattage pc... anyway:

-mega chambered tube completely filled with helium
-100k liter water tank, completely full, firmly sealed
-magical seals on the top and bottom of this tank, sealing the tube where it enters and exits
-thousands of concave mirrors reflecting sunlight into the pool
-absolute shade provided for the outer half of the tube
-two pulleys to locate the tube and provide tension and one is connected to the 10w generator
    -high efficiency 10w generator

Yes it's completely ludicrous, and yes more energy is going in than is coming out, from both solar and gravitational forces, and it will only work whilst the sun is shining, but I think my idea will actually work! I can do science me :geek:

Yes I also know that it's not perpetual motion, and that solar or wind power would be much more compact, cheaper, reliable, efficient, etc, but that's totally beside the point :D

Makes sense. The mythbusters episoide where they test if you can open the door of a sinking/submerged car really provides good insight as to how much force would be required to go through the seal at the bottom.

Forum says I can't rep you again until I rep someone else, but thank you for explaining this.

Troll science is my new favourite meme, I think they're wonderful.

    ...
    this will never work.
well, actually (looking at maths), there is a way to make it work:
simply by altering the characteritics of water! give me water that is of the same density but let's say half the weight, and i'll give you a perpetual machine (might as well give me the trillion dollars as well).

here's a thought (just to keep the ball rolling):
what if (rather than mv's sun energi) we have the water replaced by something hot, like molten rock. and of course balloons made of some magical material (we have to have something magical) that withstand the heat. would that generate enough expansion to drive the perpetual machine? the lava will be that of the earth (per definition not a perpetual machine, but it will probably outlive me).

Working in the low temp lab yesterday gave me an idea, after having helium spill everywhere. Why not use superfluid instead of water, that way you reduce any frictional forces against the motion of the balloons. Don't know how buoyancy works in this situation though and don't have an open bath of superfluid to find out :sigh:

edit: never mind, you would have to have the balloons filled with liquid helium so wonldn't work

I have built his generator and I can say with absolute certainty it works. The balls need to be made of dried **** though because it packs a powerful charge of energy when you lick it. You only need to lick each ball once and after that it's good to go.

Meh! I can't believe it! Some people are being silly on the internet and I want it stopped at once!

I think I speak for everyone when I say I want this thread closed because it's far too silly for my enormous intellect. We have to stop silliness on the internet once and for all.

Sorry dude but you have taken this one step too far. I am heading off to the person who controls ALL of this now and I will present him with my reasons why I want this thread locked. If in the unlikely event he rejects my objection to your silliness then I will take it one step higher even, and that means you will be in the biggest heap of trouble ever (any trouble you think you may have experienced so far is nothing to what will happen if I present my case against you to this even more important person).

Don't say you weren't warned and never let it be said I am someone with a sense of humour because it's just not true. If I did have a sense of humour it would be way above anything you might call humour so be warned.
