the problem with wanting everything to burn with the aim of rebuilding from the ashes is - you assume you won't get consumed by the fire - you assume you're the one that gets to rebuild doesn't matter where on the political spectrum you are...
And when you start fires you don't know where they spread to. Fire is destructive and rebuilding always has costs.
The Independent: Elon Musk’s ‘random’ $1 million winners are pre-selected ‘spokespeople’ for his pro-Trump PAC, lawyer admits So, Pedo Guy's defence to accusations of running an illegal lottery is that he's innocent... because it was rigged? That's... huh.
Back on topic, there is an election that could be as consequential for some outside the US and their own domestic elections. If Trump wins he may well crash the world economy with his tariff plans. By simultaneously deporting millions he drive up inflation and then seek ever more extreme tariff and anti-immigration policies to avoid the blame. He will almost certainly abandon Ukraine and pull out of NATO or at least undermine it, resulting in many European countries having to make extreme chances in their defence posture, redirecting a painful amount of public spending to deterring Russian aggression. This will be a signal to autocrats around the globe do what they will as long as they say nice things about Trump often enough. China will be emboldened to move more aggressively towards Taiwan. An attack there would have frightening consequences. He has repeatedly said he wants to use the US military against domestic protest which could lead to missive domestic instability which could give him or those around him cover to take ever more anti-democratic steps. But I think it looks like he might not win. So all we have to worry about is a repeat of Jan 21, perhaps.
Not to diminish what his supporters might attempt to do, but it's worth bearing in mind that he's not in office this time - he doesn't have the Office of the President of the United States at his disposal. I very much doubt we will see a repeat of the events we saw last time. They'll certainly try something, no doubt, but the machinery of government is well prepared this time, right down as far as state electoral boards/commissions. DC police, for one, are most definitely not going to be resting on their laurels - 174 officers were injured, 2 died of causes that were exacerbated by injuries sustained on the day, and 4 committed suicide in the months after the attack.
So, just the machinations of the Project 2025 working group, coupled with the complicity of SCOTUS, to worry about. Cool
Interesting. A usually accurate pollster, Selzer & Co, has Harris leading Trump by 3 in Iowa that Trump won in 2016 and 2020. Good sign.
Yeah, I saw that. I'm entirely unsurprised: ever since Pedo Guy got away with literally libelling a dude, repeatedly, then lied under oath that "Pedo Guy" actually means "creepy old man" (which is why I'm free to call Pedo Guy Pedo Guy without fear of reprisal), I've figured that there ain't a court in the land that'll hold him accountable. Money talks, eh? I'm still hoping that there's a chance a separate case for fraud is brought - given that his original announcement was very clear that the giveaway was "random," which his legal team has now confirmed it is not - but I'm not holding my breath.
Meh, we’ll get a result when we get a result, it took four days last time. I don’t have the patience for following the blow-by-blow analysis any more, I barely managed that with our own election.
Trump already projected to win Pennsylvania (by CNN), has already won Georgia and North Carolina, and is ahead in every other swing state. Imho it's already over and it's ****ing depressing.
