This and the Project 2025 stuff is what's really scary - Trump has basically bent over backwards to get these people to carry him in again, and now he's in they're owed their dues. Even the smaller things like RFK Jr. being influential in healthcare is horrifying.
I hear Germany is re-introducing National Service, as they no longer trust the USA to fulfill its duties to NATO.
Understandable. You gotta wonder if the US will start to distance itself from NATO now and, if it does, how that will embolden the likes of Russia and N Korea. Putin definitely fancies a European land grab and won't stop at Ukraine if America backs off.
I'm getting really tired of these 'once in a life time' events I'm not religious but I'm praying for a rapid, rapid, decline in health that puts him in the ground before I have to hear his shitty voice for another four years. It won't be better, but at least hating Vance will be slightly new territory.
I hear the German govt just shat itself to death... https://www.politico.eu/article/ger...af-scholz-finance-minister-christian-lindner/
This is what Putin has been holding out for Trump can say he put an end to the War, feigning strength to his supporters who will adore him for ending Wars, while legitimising Putin's ill gotten gains, and potentially having a Russian backed election to install a puppet government in Ukraine under Trumps watch
Half the yanks have been exposed for what they truly were behind the pretenses, faux values, and empty patriotism. For the 1st time in my life, I don’t feel safe being neighbor to the United States.
Well, he's old enough that if he died in the night the first thought is likely to be 'natural causes', so. It makes sense he can't raise his tiny, tiny, hands into the air and clench. I'd welcome news and damning evidence of massive election fraud that was sufficient to call it in Harris' favour, although she's no peach it must be said, but I suspect it's time to hunker down and watch the far right appear globally. I wonder which countries are going to go to war against it this time.
Trump finally got his wish. His cult have now placed him above the law, so all those lawsuits against him will vanish into thin air. The worrying thought is that now JD Vance is a single heartbeat away from being left alone with the Oval Office couches!
If there were margins of less than 1% in key swing states then there might have been a chance of that. But sadly we are not in another Bush vs. Gore “they found another ballot box in Florida’s swamps!” situation. Even with Nevada and Arizona still left to declare, Trump is sitting pretty on 295 out of the required 270 electoral college votes and 51% of the popular vote. Harris conceded late last night (our time). So… that’s that. The people have spoken.
Let's face it, as some voters said, they were less bothered about Beyonce than they were about paying for a house or groceries. Irrespective of anything else, some felt better off under Trump than under Biden/Harris (even though much of that was down to Obama's work beforehand). We can't just say they're stupid. If we ignore it just as that those behind it did in the US they will try to do the same over here with Farage and his ilk. We can't have that.
Still stupid though - economic shifts like this lag behind the choices taken by a few years, so Trump's first term was reaping the benefits of Obama's economic policies (and good times), then his tariff nonsense affects the first half of the Biden term, then Putin's safari hits us all hard with inflation which is now under control again, just in time for Trump to take over and take credit.
For too many voters, a loud, obnoxious personality also counts for a lot. Just look at how popular the idiot Johnson still is, whilst Starmer is very unpopular, as he sets about the long job of fixing the damage done by the Tories. Also, so many people want instant results in everything and, cannot understand the concept of short term pain delivering long term gain. Trump and Johnson promise the quick fix people want, regardless of long term consequences.
It's worse than that. The solutions the offer aren't even solutions. They immediately create problems with long-term consequences. Increased tariffs? Guess who's gonna foot the bill. Reduced immigration? Guess why there's a shortage on produce. Reduced women's rights? Guess why population is aging and in decline.
I'm well aware of all that. Hopefully, enough voters will realise they have made a mistake voting Trump and Republican, vote Democrat in the mid-terms in 2 years and, again in 4 years. Based on what's happened though, that's likely a long-shot...
