Oh I don't disagree. The reality is though his nonsense has been getting through.

We can't let the same thing happen here. Brexit showed it's possible.

Ouchie. I normally (and did two elections ago, last time Trump won) put a "consolation bet" on when there's an outcome I don't like - so last time I put some cash on Trump winning, so that if he didn't win I would be relieved and not mind the loss and if he did win I had some cash with which to drown my sorrows.

Didn't do it this time, though I wish I had...

(And we're talking £100 at most, not a few grand!)

I made good money on Trump back in the day, this time around I didn't place any bets on either candidate.

£10k on Kamala? I could see that if it was placed prior to the attempt on Trumps life. But after? Even the Amish went out and voted for him and they never vote.

The 2nd term hasn't started yet, but Trump already up to his old issues with ethics to the point where he doesn't even want to follow the rules he signed himself...

    Ah, but don't you see?

He signed them into law, so he is totally going to abide by them, he doesn't need to agree to them now. This is all just mean democrats being meanies.

I was in the US last week, in Boston for work, as the election results came in.

Speaking with someone who was partically unhappy that I worked with, I could at least partially empathise with her feelings based on my own experiances of / around Brexit. While Brexit didnt impact my reproductive rights, cause me to be persecuted based on my gender or potentially cause me to be "returned" to a country I have never been to, I could at least share the feelings of unease at the lack of critical thinking applied to arguements in these campaigns.

I think, for me, I would hate boiled it down to a simple question.

Do I elect a criminal or the non-criminal.

I was rather pleased to see one world leader, I forget which, describe him as "a president with convictions" in their congratulatory message.

the thing is Americans dont see it that way, the Mainstream Media has been blowing Trump for decades now, they LOVE him for 2 reasons, he gives the Billionaires behind the newspapers big tax cuts, but even more importantly was that his constant antics and scandals but lots of eyeballs on their product, generating lots of money and lots of data to sell ( see also Bojo ) and between them and the likes of Musk, Andrew Tate etc Americans believe that Trump is innocent, and every crime he is accused of is just the deep state lying to try to keep him down, and the more illegal acts he commits and gets in trouble for, the more they like him because they see him as an everyman who the 'deep state' is trying to keep down
and now Musk basically grants Trump a monopoly on Truth, it doesnt matter if its actually true, or just a load of Russian bot misinformation, it will be run through Twitter and the Trump supporters will just gobble it up and react accordingly ( see also the UK Summer riots over lies about the perp being an illegal Muslim )
and anyone who doesn't fall in line, falls down the internal pecking order and is one step closer to being seen as 'the Enemy within'

This is it right here. It's a cult of personality, demagoguery, and is actually terrifying in a country like the USA. My best friend moved there a few years ago and as a gale woman she is actually scared, as the stuff he was spouting recently is out-and-out fascism! It targets anyone not white and American, including Europeans, which is a whole new twist! Trump is petty. Trump holds grudges. Trump threatened to turn the federal government on 'the enemy within' and the army on 'the enemy without', we are about to have a near hostile government in the US. He threatened to shut down news outlets who disagreed or said bad things against him, that's every news outlet. And. This Got Him Elected!!!!!!

The only thing we can have solace about is Elon will never be a member of his government, as he'd have to give up his business holdings... Although that would give him an out on X...

I'm actually kind of more behind China at this stage than the US, at least they vaguely control their billionaires and do stuff for the collective good...

Yeah, Trump had to do that too. He just... didn't. Can see Pedo Guy doing the same.

The only real solace is that melon can never be US president and as soon as Trump has no use for him or he makes Trump look "bad," Trump'll throw him under the bus.

Assuming the Trump fans in the GOP don't let him push through legislation that lets him go for three terms, or people who give him enough blowjibbers be VP.

I hope there are enough sane people left in the GOP that he won't get away with the truly heinous ****, but I can certainly see the people behind project 2025 using him to thoroughly entrench themselves regardless of what that means for silly notions like voting or some kind of democracy.
