The sweet spot for GPU Folding at the moment is via GTX 970's. (Bear in mind that, if you run all those servers flat out, and also populate them all with GPU's, your electricity bill will be pretty hefty).
970 GTX performance versus value for folding Yes, after doing a bit of research for value and performance, 970 gtx gpu's seems to be the cards to go for. I would love to get a few more 980ti's folding, hopefully their cost will drop with the introduction of Pascal gpu's later on the year. In regards to electricity, some of the servers are going to be donated as our act of kindness to a a few people who pay all inclusive rent which includes utilities cost, so its a way of keeping them running 24/7 at no cost to me.
Is the 690 waterblocked? If not and you want to, I've got an EK block here, unused, you can have for postage...
The 690 GTX is aircooled and after doing several runs with it in different machines the ppd is not great versus power useage so going to sell it and get a 970gtx. I even overclocking it to the max and still was getting low ppd. But thanks for the offer for the waterblock, that was very kind of you. Yesterday got a MSI 970GTX, overclocked it and straight away ppd is 302k and temps at mid 60's degree. I should be at 2.5M ppd by end on the week and in 24 hours pass Saspro (sorry fella, I know you been using your rigs for lab work, thanks for the mention on Custom Pc maganize in April issue, looking forward to the next) http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=693549
Apologies for the late reply, I am seeing anywhere between 240-300K PPD from the MSI "G4 Gaming Twin Frozr V" GTX 970s that I'm using. They are an excellent value card for everything including gaming at the moment. I'm excited to get my overall production up over the 1M PPD mark using four of them in the next few months. At the moment I have two running, one away on RMA and just bought a fourth on eBay this morning, so if I run all of my clients as "Unicorn" for the CPC/bit-tech team when all four are running, I should be able to make the top 50 of the team by the summer. That's a position I haven't been anywhere near in years!
Cheers for the info. I had a delivery of MSI 970 GTX and its folding at 300K ppd. Got it overclocked +180 on the core, +495 on memory and +87mV gives giving me 1533Mhz with still a bit more to give. The cooler is great on this gpu keeping temps with the overclock mid 60's. I need a few more but need to sell some pc parts on ebay + a £4000 PC which is currently folding also. http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=693549 https://plus.google.com/photos/117424265889367246546/album/6220043061827072017/6220043099273746418
Thanks to Custom PC Mag for the mention on the latest issue of mag in regarding to our folding efforts. Its nice to be recognised even if been only folding for 45 days. Hopefully within the week the current 2,258,190 ppd will increase with added gpu. My 2nd target is 3Million by end of February and reach Top 3 Top contributors. On the verge of overtaking Saspro (Simon from Custom PC Magazine0 in 10 hours putting PcShedTV on 48th place in the league table. https://www.facebook.com/PcShed/photos/pcb.954580594625976/954580481292654/?type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/PcShed/photos/pcb.954580594625976/954580494625986/?type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/PcShed/photos/pcb.954580594625976/954580497959319/?type=3&theater http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=693549
Certainly looks like you've got loads of overtakes coming your way in the next few weeks. My current target is world top 25 (in about 1.5 months at current rates)
I should go up a few places and probably end in the top 25 in the team. Currently 1874th place in the world. Been testing 2 clients for 2 other teams just to see how they perform.
Well i just shaved off 1 year off within 59 days folding 24/7 so now only 1.2years before I can catch you up. How long u think it will take to shave another year off?
WOW! "Flying" seems to be a bit of an understatement. Just got an MSI GTX 980 up and running on air - I've bought the block for it to so just need to get a couple of radiators and that'll be my NAS server back up to scratch. Currently it's knocking out between 330 and 400k ppd which I'm delighted with as the 780 Poseidon that was in there before was only only kicking out 170-220 k ppd. Onwards and upwards - long wait now before I get back to overtaking....
We have now joined the Multi-Millionaire Points Club as we reached 100 Million milestone today ahead of planned schedule. I am going to need more graphics cards!!! https://www.facebook.com/PcShed/photos/pcb.961409160609786/961408780609824/?type=3&theater
Great line up of graphics cards you got there. Just saw yer chair in the piccys and was wondering what yer thoughts were on it.
Its getting there, 3 more Asus Strix 970 GTX's on the way to help reach my third target of 4M ppd for March. The chair is excellent, my co-host Richard did a small review on it on my Youtube channel (he got the same chair but in orange) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS0NsyO9zJg Overall i am very happy with the chair, quality is excellent, no issues and we got it from overclockers.co.uk who are top notch when it comes to after sales service, so any issues, they sort it out. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/?tap_a
Recently picked up a Tri-X 290 OC for ~£135 , did some ROM mods = 1140/1495 with some tightened RAM/MC timings. Placed in my Q6600 rig for a bit of a mini foldathon with my i5 4690K + Vapor-X 290X (again ROM mods=1100/1525) . Today broke into the top 150 of CPC/Bit Tech Team .
