Time for a 2019 update, despite interest in our folding team being at an all time low (down to 76 active folders at time of writing). I started folding again a few months back after a prolonged inactive spell, and my milestone of the day is that I'm now #2 in the producers behind DocJonz!
Well I've got two dedicated rigs for 24/7 which are guaranteed 3 to 4 million ppd, comprising a pair of RTX 2070 Supers, a normal RTX 2070 and a slot filling GT 1030. I can and do also fold part-time on the gaming rig (pro-rata 1.2m ppd) and laptop (pro-rata 300k ppd). There may be more to come, but my personal goal is a billion. Edit: just passed 100,000,000 on the last update
Can someone tell me where folding is going? This isn't an attack on folding but how much good has it done, can someone link me to the current results?
This may be a good place to start foldingathome.org/papers-results/ There's also some brief summaries on the wiki page Interesting stuff.
Passed 30 million this week. My current daily rig is doing ~550K PDD on a 2700x with a 1060. I have another 1060 on route and some other hardware that has been in test and hopefully coming online soon. Been out of the fold for a while but figure the new hardware needs a test and it's bloody cold here in Australia atm
Massive congrats to all those still at it! Those still at it seem to be knocking out the points! Had my main GPU die on me last year and ever since the chrome client stopped I've been finding it harder to knock out a few WU's. Kinda miss the Android client even tho I'm not entirely sure it worked!
Had hoped to have another 2080ti up and running but sadly not happened yet, will hopefully have it going for a bit soon.
Now got 2 x 2070 Supers, 1 x 2070 and 1 x 2060 dedicated so should stabilise at around 4.5M ppd. George, if you can get a second Ti folding then you should see roughly the same output, particularly if you use Linux.
Yeah had some UPS issues so was temporarily lost and goodness knows what else hah, idea was to fold for a couple of months and play around until having to sell at least one sadly, but since it's taken so long not sure how much time I'll be able to have them both folding at this rate! Yeah my single card does 2.2-2.6M I've seen, so should roughly double, running ubuntu as it's my PhD box.
Lol. I'll be adding a 1080Ti full time early next week, as well as attempting to move everything over to Ubuntu for the small percentage increase in ppd. Gunning for >10 million ppd before the fun stops (or at least slows down)
Shirty - that will be some impressive output Did you win the National Lottery?! - that's a lot of expensive hardware and some chunky electric bills
I wish, far from it! True, the hardware is all mine, but I'll recoup a good chunk of that outlay when I get around to selling the cards at some unknown point in the future (and probably take the family on a holiday somewhere warm and sunny). Electricity costs aren't too terrifying as far as I'm concerned. I also have a second 2080Ti I could invite into the fold, but that is serving my gaming PC so is unlikely to see too many work units, at least for the time being. On an unrelated note, do you think it's worth switching to Linux? I can't decide!
All my Folding rigs run Linux (Ubuntu) - have been for years - at the time it made an improvement to the PPD, and I think that is still the case, but I haven't done any direct comparisons for a long time.
