I remember reading this in CPC and being disappointed then too.

 

This is a cred-cooler I think. It looks like it cools well and has a certain mean styling to it. I personally wouldn't pay that much money for something that doesn't cool as well as the Fenrir, especially as the Fenrir is now so cheap.

 

A quick question - What Ambient temperatures were recorded during these tests (to get the delta T)?

I am trying to compare your results with my own but without an actual base ambient temperature I am stuck.

 

Our labs are air conditioned and generally sit at between 21-24°C. Ambient temps are re-taken for each temperature reading.

 

Looks cool ...dosen't work very well. Good grief! Don't these manufactures test their products before releasing them?

 

Missing info what was used to put these machines under full load?

Also was HT on with the 1366 setup?

 

We use Prime95 to load the CPUs. And yes, Hyper Threading was enabled on the LGA1366 rig.

I think my bedroom is around 25 Degrees (Central heating on) which explains why I am seeing slightly higher Idle temps under my Corsair H50. (Well that and I found out the fans are on low).

 

What's the point of buying this thing other than it looking pretty? Hell, what's the point of coming out with an updated heatsink that's worse than the original in terms of performance? I'll stick with my Scythe MUGEN-2 I think.

 

These results seem at odds with xbitlabs recent test where it did a lot better.

 

couple good points on some of these comments in that a:do they not test these things? b:why make a revision worse than the original...in this economy, that seems pretty ... ignorant

 

It did a hell of a lot better in almost every review out there. some had it up with thors hammer etc.

Im losing faith in this site to be honest. I'll find out what the cooler is like myself next week.

 

What fans did you guys use?

I question your love of the Fenrir, when I have compared it to other CPU coolers, specifically one with similar design to the Tuniq (same base plate, same factory, different fin layout) Xtreme Gear HP-1216 I've found much better performance form this, the V8, Asetec LCLC 120 (debadged Corsair H50), TRUE and CoolerMaster Hyper 212 than the Fenrir. The Amanda had it's day in the Quad Elite but these also vastly out perform that too. Especially on overclocked i7s. One thing I have found with HDT coolers is that you need more TIM than on flat block coolers.
