Currently I'm connected to a LAN on my college campus. Its a wonderful connection except for the fact that so many TCP/UDP ports are blocked. Full list here. Right now mIRC doesn't like me too well, BitTorrent just hates me, I get a good ping on about 10 servers out of every multiplayer game I have (I seriously get a better ping with 56k). I can't even use tracert! I've heard about HTTPTunneling and I was wondering if this was a plausible solution? I've also heard about SOCKS. Thanks.
search "tunneling" in software and devolpment the thread's closed, but the info is still there (look for HTTPort 3) it's kinda hard to set up though....
I've already read that thread. I need more of an explination on how to use it or another peice of software.
I used the free version of HTTP tunnel last year at my uni. You don't get much bandwidth with the free version (can't remember the exact figure), but it was enough for IM, etc
let us know how long you stay at this Uni / College for... i have a feeling they won't like this very much.....
A) They can't expell you from the University. B) The end user agreement doesn't explicitly prohibit using such software. C) They're pin heads. They charge a lot of money for these connections and they make it about as functional as two tin cans connected by a wire. The only alternative is 56k running through the University which has all of the same restrictions. If I had a choice I wouldn't be living in the dorms. Unfortunately university policy dictates that I must stay here.
