i just put ubuntu on my aspire one, and the speakers don't turn off when i plug the headphones in. anybody know how to fix this? i've asked on aspireoneuser and ubuntuforums, but nobody seems to be responding, and it's a little urgent because if i can't figure it out i won't be able to watch movies on my 6-hr bus ride tomorrow.
that mutes the headphones too. i just disassembled it and unplugged the internal speakers from the mobo. that should get me through the bus ride, but i would prefer a more permanent solution, if anybody knows how.
It would help if we knew what you were plugging the headphones into, a front audio panel for instance? That would be a Mobo issue most probably, not OS defined.
There's an option in the sound options about what to do when the headphone switch is active. I'll check & get screenshots in the monring
yes. under XP they did, and on my brother's machine with acer's custom linux installed they do. the AC'97 spec requires all jacks to report whether they have something plugged in to them.
This happens in windows when the driver isn't quite correct (eg using a windows driver rather than the manufacturers). My linux knowledge is quite limited, however... Did the sound work straight "out the box" with ubuntu or did you have to install a driver? If you didn't install a driver, i suggest doing so using the one on realtek's website (which i believe is the manuf. of the audio chipset in the one). Its HD audio not AC'97 as well. Realtek do a driver for kernel 2.4 and 2.6 (i believe ubuntu 8.10 uses v2.6) http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
http://awesomerails.wordpress.com/2...acer-aspire-on-ubuntu-finally-figured-it-out/ FWIW, it switches fine on my Aspire one (XP preinstalled).
i just installed ubuntu on my brother's aa1, and i updated alsa to the latest version on it. his headphones mute the speakers, so it looks like that's the solution. thanks for all the help guys.
