I think that everyone should be able to add the same amount of rep, regardless of how much you have. Have you considered a -rep button? Fail post would result in the same amount of rep lost as you would have gained with a plus rep, and red rep bars would actually come into use.

    Any chance?

I wouldn't put a neg rep button, there are too many spiteful little kids on this forum and it would be badly misused.

Rep is irrelenvat as it was all given out during Demot thread and therefore does not link into actually anything helpful being done at all

How about only giving out rep in the technology section, ie hardware, software, tech support, I guess folding.

Would be good if you could have a seperate rep bar for areas like project logs and folding to give to people who are doing particular good mods/folding well but aren't neccesarily "helping" others...

Make rep only count from certain subforums. See instantly how people will max rep go down by half! :)

I haven't gotten any thread in a Demot thread, whatever that is??

I think it's nice when people genuinely mean it and I expect that to be rare.

IF it would be like that... the rep system worked untill the demotivation thread. In there you got rep for just not reposting... So now the system became obsolete... It was good while it lasted...

There are people here that actually spend a lot of time helping people and dont get any rep from the people they help for what ever reason which is a shame.

Like true_gamer 99% of the people he helped and its a lot of people were new so they couldn't give him.

And yet the Demot thread boosted some peoples rep by stupid amounts.

Don't see what the big deal is about rep tbh. Who cares. It's just for fun imho. Don't expect people to start spending hours on end to give better advice for the sake of a rep point. This isn't yahoo answers so.

I think the rep system is fine as it is, most of my reps for helping people somei s for modding and a few for witty comments. When alls said and done it's not like there's a prize at the end of the year for the person with the most rep, it's just a little thing on the side for people to leave a discrete comment in.

I work hard on drawing up electronic schematics just to get some more rep from mvagusta - at least I know he appreciates the work I put in!

A lot of the times people rep you for ripping into people. You get a lot more rep for a darkly sarcastic post than you ever get for being helpful.

Gee, thanks for that deeply insightfull post Rogan. How ever would we have realised that without you?

    (Did it work? :D)

Personally I'd like the power to neg rep so I could punish rubbish jokes like this one.

Meh, a large majority of the time people just don't think of giving out rep. I know I often don't think of it.

I'm not so sure about the demote thread being where most rep came from. I did get a fair bit from there (maybe 30% of my rep), but not near as much as some people seem to think.

Besides, who cares how much you have? Yeah yeah yeah, I know... I have full rep so of course I wont complain. But really it doesn't make any difference.

Is it gonna help you get a hot girlfriend? No? Well then what is the fuss about?
