just wondering if buying another gigabyte 460 gtx soc to sli on a ga-p67a-ud4-b3 with a 2500k sandy bridge cpu on a samsung syncmaster B2330 23" gaming at 1920x1080 some advice would be great as they r only £155 on scan so
NOOOOOO TWO 460'S WOULD MAKE UR GAMING HORRIBLE WAY WORSE THEN EVER. Hmph, Yeah it will be better I say just go sli you're 460's or maybe buy a 560
lol Also on topic, if you have the money why not? The results from 460's in SLi are always good. Are you struggling to play anything smoothly though?
That'll be comparable to a single GTX 580, seeing as you already have one another would be excellent value! Have you tried overclocking the Gigabyte 460 GTX SOC? I have the regular Gigabyte 460 GTX twin fan edition and overclock to your stock of 815 without messing around with voltages. Whilst playing battlefield 3 I pump the fans up to the maximum 70% and in SLI the top card reaches 70 degrees whilst the bottom is under 60 degrees. This is in a Fractal Design R3 so it's quite impressive in my eyes seeing as the case is regularly reviewed as not an ideal candidate for an SLI rig. It actually deals with the heat quite well!
Why a premium SOC edition? Get a standard version and save £20 and self overclock. GTX 460's priced over £140 are rather overpriced now you can get a 560ti for £175.
£155 is far too much for a GTX460. 460's can now be had for under £120 brand new or even under £100 (MSI Hawk (Talon Attack) in clearance section on overclockers). In terms of performance the second card should offer around 80%* scaling across a wide range of games (better in some, worse in others). I would go SLI but only do it if you can get the GTX460 for a decent price. At £155 you would be better off selling your current 460 and putting the funds towards a HD6950 + unlock or a GTX570. *over and above a single card.
This article is worth a read... Bear in mind thought that not all games benefit from SLi, though you can create profiles via the nVidia control panel.
I had 2 470's in sli , just sold one o f them as they were complete overkill and the only games i've got that benefited were crysis / warhead and metro ..... going back to one card has been a bit of a relief 2bh - less noise , cables , heat etc....
I mainly play BC2 with 2 x 768mb Inno3D GTX 460's in SLI @ 1680x1050, it damn well flys (as expected at that resolution) and I have had no driver problems compared to when I ran 2 x 5770's in Crossfire. I also play Dirt 2 with all bells and whistles @ max but I had to run one advanced setting down from ultra to high (can't remember which) as I had a slight microstutter. I fully expect them to last me through to when I upgrade my monitor in a month or so. My inside card temp isn't bad (82C max under Furmark, 72C max under 2 hour BC2 session) but I have very good airflow in my case (2 x Silverstone 120mm Air Penetrators @ front) and both cards exhaust out the back. You would have to ensure that you have good airflow in your case as the Gigabyte GTX 460 Super OC will exhaust into the case. If you already have one card, getting another is great bang for buck if the games you play support SLI. However, the risk you face is that if you don't like it and sell on one or both cards, you will lose a bit of money if buying new at £155. Second hand GTX 460's tend to go for around the £100-£120 mark on here - maybe more on the evilbay.
thanks for all your reply's some good advice not sure what to do now may be save some more cash and next month see what prices all cards are at then take the plunge
I knew you'd slip up eventually Blogins and reveal that you are from the future! Whats BF3 like then?
Another option is always get that extra cash and sell the existing 460 for (what d'you think guys? £80 ish?) If you can save yourself the extra to get up to around £200 and put the sale cash in and bang, single 570
