Pictures! Bad ones, but it's a start

Ok, here are some basic pictures. Just these three for now because right now it looks like crap :grr: . Trust me when i say it will look better when I'm done

The toothpicks are helping keep the bondo out of one of the card reader holes (trust me on this one), and the acrylic piece in front of everything is the hard drive/mouse activity light

still think this doesn't exist? :D

My original question was what else i should add to the keyboard. As you can see, there's a good deal of space still to the left of the HDD, and while i can't add anything too big, i'd like to add something.

Inspired by your mod, I made my own multi-purpose keyboard. I obviously didn't have the seme resources, but the effect is the same :) .

Do you ever have trouble with your hardware falling off? Wow, me too :D

USB Wifi? That would be cool, all in one keyboard to the max. Or like I think you suggested, usb speakers (or soundcard), and put in headphone and mic connector. Or one of those fm radio transmitters.

    Comprehensive list of USB-attachable devices

pretty good ideas, i like the video capture the best except i just spent $80 on a new PCI card :wallbash: (haha wouldnt it be great if someone could come up with a USB device that is an open PCI slot?). wifi is another good idea except that it'd be resting under a metal plate, though i could mod the antenna . . . A flaxible lamp sprouting from the middle back of the keyboard is in planning. it will have 2 LED's facing different diretions to cover the whole keyboard, rather than 2 lamps from either end (this makes it easier to wire and switch)

    ~off-topic~

Inspired by your numerous suggestions, i spent some time today to come up with a list of all USB devices that actually utilize the USB bus (i.e. not including fans, lamps, battery chargers, etc) Feel free to use this list as a stepping point for any mods.

    Converters:*
    Serial, Parallel (Printer), SCSI 50-pin, P-ATA, S-ATA, PS/2, Ethernet

    * I have not included devices that can be attached via converters (HDD, CDRW, etc)

    Wireless:
R/C IR receiver, IrDA, IR Blaster, Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, Keyboard, Mouse, Radio Transmitter (mod required), Radio Reciever, Media Broadcaster

    Drives:
Flash, Floppy, Zip, Card Reader, Superdisk (LS120)

    Input:
Keyboard, Mouse, Microphone, Webcam, Touch Screen, Fingerprint Reader, Credit Card Reader, SIM Card Reader, Barcode Scanner, Numeric Keypad, Scanner, CAD Space-Mouse, Data Acquisition Systems

    I/O:
Sound Card, Video Capture, UPS, MP3 Player, X10 Interface, VoIP, Skype, Modem, Mic/Speaker port

    Standalone Devices:
PDA, Calculator, Cell Phone, Digital Camera, Camcorder

    Other:
USB Hub, Active Repeater, Speakers, LCD, Printer, security dongle, Anything else you can build and program

Great, now i want to make a box with all of those in it

Thank you, gascan, you've given me the basis for my next mod :cooldude:

Throw in a SBC motherboard with a VGA port and you got yourself a PC.

internal wiring more or less finsihed, got the front cover painted, but the bondo work is going slowly. I will post pictures tomorrow evening. (none tonight cuz girlfriend > keyboard). I'm still unsure of what the added device will be.. . decent quality fingerprint scanners are ~$40(cool,but a little expensive). I'm thinking maybe like a CD holder or spring-loaded cup holder or a clock or somehting. got any more ideas? Thanks

    there goes my evening . . .

    *dumb* *dumb* *dumb* :wallbash:

made a stupid mistake--forgot to cover the area of the keyboard where the keys go. So now that area is coated with a few layers of paint and the keys dont slide in well

so i get to spend my night filing off layers of paint from the inside track of every single key. :duh:

    :wallbash:

these will never be available in shops, not by my making. I've spent ~50 hours working on this (i work very very slowly) and around $100, which might be as high as $200 when I'm finished, $300 if i had gotten top-quality parts for everything. If demand is high, i could probably do a couple customs for people, but i have a PACKED semester in college ahead of me. :sigh:

but hey thats what I'd love to do as a job --make custom PC parts for people. :dremel:
