Hi guys, I just installed Ubuntu 6.0 on my laptop - Everything is going great so far except one small road block, I can't seem to find out why I can't connect wirelessly on my router? How do I get it to view the wireless connections? I go into the wireless area of networking and it says it's active but isn't there supposed to be a display of wireless connections available? Or am I skipping a step? Thanks.
ok i was just informed by my friend who has ubuntu that the 6.0 version doesn't come with ndiswrapper, i must install it in order for wireless to work correctly?
Look on the Ubuntu website, they have a wiki with most of the answers that you're ever likely to need.
Just get the latest Ubuntu version (6.06 IIRC), that makes a lot of difference. Or do like Fiddlebot said, go to the Ubuntu helppages. Ubuntu has a great support community.
Is there a way to get it to work on the internet wireless without using a USB drive or burning it onto a CD and extracting it? What can I do to get it working wireless right now. I used the ubuntu 6.0 cd. ;x
If you can get a wired internet somewhere, just plug it in, and apt-get (or through synaptic) the ndiswrapper package (guessing you'll be using that)
ah, havn't tried yet but you can hard wire an ethernet cable with ubuntu and it'll automatically recognize it without having to install software? it's just installing software for wireless is an additional step i take it?
Yes, you can connect to a modem via ethernet or USB without needing to install it. I'm using GTKWifi on my laptop. Was using ndiswrapper with the previous version, but didn't had the time (and the will) to install it yet.
is gtkwifi like netstumbler? and what is the advantage/disadvantage vs ndiswrapper? won't it just be better to go with gtkwifi, sounds a lot simple.
ndiswrapper is for conect to the driver, KGTwifi, wireless assitant and other tools like that are only GUI for the hardware management, not driver
